Today we’d like to introduce you to Ignacio Ramirez.
Ignacio, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am an award-winning composer for Video Games, TV Series, and Films.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I started his musical career studying for an Undergraduate in Composition in the Catholic University of Argentina (UCA). 3 years later, I realized my great enthusiasm for Video Game and Film soundtracks and enrolled myself to receive an Undergraduate minor in Production.
I graduated from both undergrads in May 2017, and 3 months later, I moved to Valencia, Spain, to start a Master’s Degree in Scoring for Film, TV, and Video Games at Berklee Valencia, where I graduated in July 2018.
There, I joined UpCraft Studios, a new state-of-the-art studio in Southern Utah specializing in original scoring and audio production for film, video games, and television.
I finally moved to the United States in late 2021 to continue my professional career with UpCraft Studios. So far, we have worked in the video game industry by composing music for worldwide known games such as League of Legends: Wild Rift, PUBG Mobile, Honor of Kings, and Dungeonborne. And as main audio providers for TGA (The Gaming Agency), the very first Argentine gamification company. Developing both music composition and sound design for different mobile games, such as Savory® Juega y Aprende (Nestlé), Cyber Agent, A Hero Rises (Deloitte), Enlaza2 (Telefónica), and others.
We have also worked alongside renown Chinese composer, Xueran Chen, in Chinese TV Series like Three-Body (三体); Lighter & Princess (点燃我,温暖你), A Journey to Love (一念关山) and Nothing But You (爱情而已). Other works include award-winning projects like Link Click (时光代理人), Ay Antonia, Amaranto, Lifetime: A Pac-Man Story, and Burying Yasmeen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Being from South America, I had to work very hard to get the O1 artist visa, and once in the States, I had to keep working very hard to make sure I could arrive safely by the end of the month. Sometimes, there were no clients at all, so I had to do a very thorough networking in order to create new opportunities. That’s what shaped me into the person and professional I am nowadays.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a music composer for video games and TV series. I’m known for working on projects like PUBG Mobile, Three-Body, and Link Click Season.
Generally, what I do is I receive raw material from the project, and I’m in charge of creating something completely original based on some provided reference. I believe what sets me apart from others is the amount of passion I put on every single project I work on. I need to create music in my software Logic Pro X, using a different amount and variety of Virtual Instruments, sometimes recording live instruments. Creating something new completely from scratch and make sure it works with picture and sounds good is no easy task, but I love it. I am very proud of the composer I became and the big projects I took part in.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are getting more involved within the video game industry, becoming a more prominent video game composer, and establishing a larger career, having worked on several projects. I plan on assisting several conferences and VGM events as well as traveling to make it happen.
