Today we’d like to introduce you to Gilbert Gonzales.
Gilbert, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Picked up a camera five years ago, Got really into my local scene with street photography and found a real passion with going out to shoot and create
Left my 9-5 a few years ago to pursue photography full time with no real plan and joined a partnership with a studio in downtown SB.
Tried to get photos of son like we use to back in the day at the swapmeet and realized not to many exist anymore. Found some backdrop online from local artists and was able to create a space to bring back those old-school memories with my style of photography and been in business about a year now
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Learning and creating a business is hard or was for me. I’m more of a creative and but balancing the business side with clients has been a learning process
I’m lucky to have friends/mentors I’ve turned to for advice and partners in this studio to help the growth and process
Equipment and gear isn’t cheap but this has been a collection of years of reinvestment into better gear and continues
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a portrait photographer.
My specialty is 1 on 1 shoots. And I’m most known for is my street-style photography and old-school star shoots in studio
My style is bright and colorful with a film-like look but also modern.
I take a lot of care into every shoot and try to create the best possible image I can.
I’m most proud of my recent work into local art shows with other artist I look up too and inspire to be.
How do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t say I’ve had the best luck, My life has been full of set backs but I try and not let that get me down, You have to want it tbh.
You gotta get out there to shoot and create for yourself.
There’s these lil moments where I know I’m on the right path because things seem to work out at the very last min, Everyday I gotta go out there and work and create to provide a life for my family.
