Life & Work with Field Cate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Field Cate.

Field Cate

Hi Field, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We’re a manic rock band called “Fencer”. Based out of SoCal, we’ve been doing this for the last couple of years. We have a major emphasis on theatricality, rawness, the color blue, and mental health. Put out our debut self-titled and self-produced album in Feb 2023, released a brand new single called “Pity Committee” last month, and have a bunch of new music ready to go moving into the new year!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well as the cliche goes, the music industry is a difficult one. But keeping on the grind by continually playing shows, recording new music, and making content is what you gotta keep doing. Have had many close calls here and there, but we’re going strong and excited for what the future will bring.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a rock band, so we write, record, and perform our original music! We did a couple of big nationwide tours in 2019 and are constantly playing in the local LA scene. Some of the things that make us unique is definitely our focus on color. Everything we do is the color blue because I (the lead singer/guitar player. My name’s Field!) have synesthesia, which is something that causes an association with words/music and color. To me all our music is blue, so we capitalize on it pretty hard. We’re also particularly theatrical for a rock band as I come from an acting/musical theatre background. Have also dealt with a lot of mental health struggles so most of our lyrics are generally surrounding that topic.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Ideally just counting to grow our following. Would like to be doing this on as large a scale as possible, so the goal is definitely to just increase our outreach as much as possible.
