Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Everhart.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out as an aspiring drummer. At first, I was into Rush and Metallica. Pantera and TOOL. I got more info on jazz fusion in high school. I played in a lot of bands and genres since then. Metal core, trash, big band, jazz groups, progressive metal, blues rock, goth industrial, and straight-up pop. I got seriously into producing and mixing bands and over the last ten years have grown my studio from a Protools mbox to a pretty sweet production studio. I just studied everything I could. Songwriting, piano, theory and in the last five years guitar. Currently singer and producer in Dedoz, Whorticulture, Drummer for Tyler Paul Glasgow’s band, producer for Elektric Animals and Horse Bitch.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth, but that’s how it goes for everything worth it. I had to really work at every phase of music. Truly had to sacrifice a lot along the way. It’s tough to be an artist and work a job alongside it. In 2019, I fell on a ladder and broke my thumb in half. I thought I was never going to play again. I had to rehab for years to get back. Now, it is hard to juggle being an artist and running my own freelance company. It is almost harder now running a company alongside.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a musician, session player, songwriter, producer, mixing/mastering engineer, live sound tech, and stage production lead. I’m known as a producer and drummer mostly. I’m most proud of creating a life full of music. Around of all the records I’ve made and tours I’ve done. I’d say I’m a jack of all trades. I know a lot about many aspects of the music business. I’m a strong team player and love making things come to life.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the music business as I know it is becoming obsolete. Short videos, short songs, and short tours. I also see competition getting harder. Everyone has access to be really good these days so marketing is the most important thing a musician can do. Strong branding and finding a way to bring emotionally impactful art are so important now.
