Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Avila
Hi Elijah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had always wanted to make music and was inspired by those around me who were. I didn’t understand that it was as simple as buying some equipment, but that changed in 2019. A close friend of mine, Joseph (IG: @themidnightprofit), who I would freestyle with frequently, introduced me to his friend Nayib (IG: @nayib_rivera), who would later record my first couple of songs, which have never been released. My first song was released in 2020, called “Phantoms,” under the name FATBOY on SoundCloud, and I would continue to release songs and do live shows under that name until 2023, when I changed my name to ALLEYAVI (IG: @alley.avi). In 2024, I released a mixtape called “Lavender,” collaborated with a variety of Los Angeles-based artists, and started shooting and editing music videos for the underground hip-hop scene. It’s now 2025, I’m about to turn 23, and I’m only getting better. In a few years, the world is gonna know my name.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been the easiest… Apart from having to deal with people not believing in what you do or seeing what you see, I’ve spent countless hours on songs that might never see the light of day… It’s mostly mental… There’s a certain delusion, almost, that you need to have… You just have to know it’s going to work out… Creating art in any way takes a lot of self-reflection, and I get very personal in my music… It’s kind of like sharing your secrets with a stranger…
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My music style is very versatile and changes quite often. I might wake up one day and feel like rapping, and the next I might feel like singing. I try to keep my audience on their toes. I’m most known for my song “Wipe It Down” on SoundCloud, which also has a music video on YouTube, and for the “Lavender” mixtape (available on all platforms).
