Life & Work with Eddie Jung of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Jung

Hi Eddie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a hair salon, as my mom used to own one. She started sending me to beauty school when I was in high school, but I hated it. At the same time, I began coding and joined the computer science team. Since then, I’ve always had two roles: hairstylist by day, coder by night. I came to the U.S. in 2009 and started working at a Japanese salon. People here are more accepting of Japanese speakers with poor English than other groups, so it worked out. I also worked for a web agency at night.

Around 2014, I decided to create Eddie’s Edition, combining my two careers. As a hairstylist, I understand the work environment stylists want and the challenges they face in building up clientele. I was one of the top men’s hairstylists in Pasadena, so I felt confident sharing my experience with others. For customers, I understand their frustrations with salons and barbershops not respecting their time. It’s gotten better in recent years, but before COVID, it wasn’t great.

Today, I still work as a hairstylist, gathering feedback from my staff and customers. At night, I pass that feedback to my in-house developer (who is also me) to improve my business every day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We tell our hair stylists that we aim to stand between hair salons and barbershops. Our primary service is men’s haircuts. There are significant differences between barbershops and hair salons. One focuses more on very short hairstyles, while the other focuses on longer lengths. The vibes are also very different. We want to position ourselves between salons and barbershops, blending and combining the strong skills from both and mixing their unique atmospheres.

We provide the best work environment and treat our staff exceptionally well, which attracts top talent from both salons and barbershops. This allows us to learn from each other’s backgrounds and experiences, continually improving our skills and service.

What matters most to you?
A system that supports our staff in building better careers, improving their finances, and enhancing their lives. A system for customers that respects their time, provides quality service, offers fair pricing, and is easy to use and return to.
