Life & Work with Domo Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Domo Jones.

Domo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Having to deal with a disability since age nine, I’ve always had to do things differently and develop the confidence in being different in how God made me. Once I became ok with understanding that my disability doesn’t make me less than but makes me who I am, that confidence led me to show others the value in living with a disability and showing them how being unique and different is one of the best qualities to have. So, share it! That’s where my talk show began.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t as smooth as people may see today. My confidence took time. I had to drop out of school, quit my job, not be able to drive, stay home in recovery for months, taken to emergency, doctor appointments every two weeks, having to crawl to the bathroom because I was so weak, not be able to get out the bed because my body was in some much pain, and so many other challenges I had to face. But even in all that, I chose to keep the mindset of “this fight is not for you. You’re fighting to show others they’re not fighting by themselves. I’ve been there too.”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a hostess of a disability talk show. I love the fact that every week I’m able to interview people with disabilities, medical conditions, and essential caregivers giving them the opportunity to share their stories of how they break the stigma beyond their conditions. I’m the only livestream show that has a hostesses with a disability only interviewing guests with disabilities

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think I’d say, I have no script on my show! I don’t do preinterviews of my guests and my first introduction to them is 15 minutes before the show, so I’m hearing their stories the same time as everyone else watching.
