Life & Work with Diondre Mompoint

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diondre Mompoint.

Diondre, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am an author and scientist that is a huge fan of all things science. Before I could even speak about complex science topics, I always knew that I wanted to pursue some type of success in STEM. I started out with loving to build things and engineer: I later turned my interests toward natural sciences and loving biology. With this, I pursued a Biological Sciences degree from Florida Atlantic University. From there, I continued to dedicate my efforts toward the scientific community by writing articles, books and managing an active blog centered around scientific inquiry & Sci-Fi.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It is almost never smooth. The biggest struggle I had in my journey was building the confidence to use my scientific knowledge in a non-traditional way. It is typical for someone to graduate and find a career with hopes of growing in a field. However, I took a chance at other ventures while still being active in my career. It is not easy to juggle having a family, a management position at a lab, an active blog, a business and being an author. The first thing that comes to people’s minds are having one stable job and income. Breaking away from this mindset is hard when the norm is to get a job and stick with it until retirement. So, before I could get to where I am, I had to be humbled and ready to make myself open for others to see some of my work. I had to make myself available for people to read my stories, blog posts and see the other ventures that I have done. At first, it did not feel comfortable, but after a while it became normal.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an author, scientist and business owner. I write books, articles and blog posts that are centered around science, skepticism and life. Aside from this, I work in an analytical lab and the Co-Founder of the telecommunications service, “Need A Friendly”. Most of my time however, is spent on writing and researching topics that are interesting to discuss via my blog, podcast and Youtube Channel. I am most proud of my website because I am able share it with others; it is like a library. It offers free tutoring video links and has articles that are both informative & entertaining. It took me a while to build this site, so opening it up each day truly makes me proud. My love for the blog, “Origins Weekly” is probably the top of my “proud scale”. It is something so different from most blogs that you see on the internet today. I think it brings in people with very little interest in science to have conversations about some of the topics.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Too easy! That’s science. My family is science, life is science and everything in the visible world to the quantum world(meaning we can’t see) is science. You commonly see videos or articles titled, “The Science of BLANK”. There is a science to everything. Just the faint thought makes me happy. There is this feeling of excitement of wanting to learn more and share it with people. There is a joy in explaining something to a person about the exact chemical that is responsible for your hangover or for why you may be lactose intolerant. It is all in the science.
