Today we’d like to introduce you to Davide Fiore.
Hi Davide, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I was in high school. It was about capturing creativity and chaos. I wielded editing software, documenting epic pranks, collecting them in DVDs years before YouTube and Facebook started. Then I had to choose the college. My parents wanted me to become a doctor, but I couldn’t see myself there. When I discovered that I could be paid doing what I liked… hell yeah! I jumped on it. Not knowing anybody in this business, no family connections, or people to learn from, I had to pave my way for myself. The future was uncertain but exciting… after a brief editing career with the Ferrari team in the F1 Grand Prix and a few month on an Italian TV Channel, my heart belonged to the pulsing rhythm of electronic music. The rise of social media in the early 2010s became my playground, and it’s where I found my first clients. I crafted music videos for DJs and music labels, traveling around the world, from Egypt to China, from Greece to the US. Sleep was a luxury, but what a journey?!? Sixteen years. Enough stories to fill a therapist’s couch.
My “let’s see what happens” approach took a wild turn – directing my first feature film! From prankster to chronicler of A.P. Giannini, the founder of Bank of America? “A Little Fellow” was a whirlwind but the greatest learning experience of all. Now, I stand here, a filmmaker with a past as unpredictable as the future. But that’s the beauty, isn’t it? The next edit… the next story… the next adventure. It’s all a blank tape waiting to be filled. And that’s exactly how I like it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has never been a smooth road. The biggest struggle was people not believing in my job. The most common question was: “What is your real job?”. But then, leaving Italy and my family was really difficult, but there was a bigger dream to seize. To all the struggles of a creative life, add a new kind of working environment, a new mentality, meeting new people with a different background from mine. Stepping out of my comfort zone shook me raw, but amidst the whirlwind, I found my place. And even if you work hard and there’s a lot of competition, the stakes are always higher. Time to complete a project is less plus… but that’s part of the game.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a film editor, and I mostly edit documentaries, but I also worked on Narrative Movies, short and long lengths, a lot of commercials, and music videos. I like to integrate my editing with a lot of motion graphics and the music is a real character in every project I work on. I can tell you I’m very proud of every project I edited in my life. Every mistake I made and every award I won.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t have one favorite memory. I have so many of them. I had a wonderful childhood, even if we didn’t have a lot. I grew up with a wonderful family.
