Life & Work with Darrell Black

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrell Black.

Hi Darrell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My creative pursuit began in childhood with a keen interest in replicating human stories of technological achievement using drawings, paintings, and found objects. This method of wanting to understand the world around me in creative terms resulted in my proficiency as an internationally recognized visual artist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road in pursuit of any goal is never easy. It’s fraught with problems and many disappointments along the way. The path to becoming a visual artist is very intense and competitive, each creative needs to be consistently innovative in order to stay relevant in the Art world. This is not an easy feat to achieve since many art styles and methods of creation have already been attempted.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
First and foremost I’m a creative person who interprets life on my own terms whatever makes sense to me. This personal interpretation of the world has helped make better sense of human fallacy and its misguided belief that race and gender determine human superiority and with this fundamental foundation of understanding I create works of art that appeal to all of humanity. My self-described art style called ”Definism” has matching titles that help unlock the overall meaning of the image to the viewer while creating a road map to alternate interpretations.

My most ambitious artwork project to date was in collaboration with Planet Labs to etch an artwork image or message on the side panel of a super dove observation satellite on January 13, 2022, 44 super doves satellites with a variety of artwork designs and messages launched from Cape Canaveral Florida into sun-synchronous orbit on a Space X Falcon 9 rocket. This was a magnificent achievement for myself and all the other artists involved.  I’m thankful to have participated.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
So many people I met throughout my life journey I owe a debt of gratitude for their honest thoughts and input about my artwork. I would like to acknowledge Family, Friends, Colleagues, and acquaintances who helped me see many of my most innovative ideas from very different perspectives.

TO ALL THANK YOU!!!
