Life & Work with Christopher Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Ward.

Christopher Ward

Hi Christopher, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have been restoring the woodwork in old homes for a while now. Last year I started making aesthetic biophilic furniture and it’s starting to catch on. More clients every month, and it’s really become an exciting new chapter for my career to be able to create this art and share it with Los Angeles.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, absolutely not haha. I mean, it’s been great, but there are always challenges with getting things started like this. For me, the challenge is getting more exposure and getting seen. I’m working on that every day; it’s important to me to share my message with as many people as possible.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I build aesthetic furniture that leans heavily on the natural structures of plants and animals. My furniture doesn’t necessarily fit well into traditional interior design, nor is it meant to. I kind of like the idea that my work misbehaves, so to speak, and challenges the idea of the interior and what we reject from nature outside at times. My work is curved, asymmetrical, and nonlinear. Furniture is a great way to have this conversation because it lets us examine the arbitrary rules we have for the items that we put inside of our homes.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I’m hopeful that, as a society, we will see the benefits of bringing the outside in and that we will continue to embrace what nature has to offer. If my project is successful, like others who are similar to me, society will be more in touch with the outside world, less likely to want to damage it less likely to abuse it or take it for granted, which is what we desperately need right now.
