Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Breckenridge.
Hi Charlie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been passionate about production, whether that be in the video or event space. Since I was about thirteen, I’ve gained experience in lighting design, event production, video production, digital marketing, and more. I thoroughly enjoy learning things and strive to understand how everything works. Creating something that triggers a certain emotion from humans is powerful and rewarding at the same time.
I’ve been in Los Angeles for about a year. I was terrified of moving here and worried about what I would actually be able to achieve. I don’t like feeling stuck or like I’m wasting time in this world; and although a career isn’t everything in life, I’m super passionate about what I do and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
When I moved here, I applied to as many video production jobs as possible and worked as a lighting designer on weekends at Catch One. I learned a lot about nightlife while working at Catch One and was able to analyze shows that would come through. I was continuously thinking about what I could create in the nightlife space, not just in Los Angeles but in general.
I’ve always had a passion for electronic music and would continuously research and watch videos of the behind-the-scenes of large festivals like Ultra and some of the best nightclubs in the world, such as Omnia. After a couple of months of deliberation, I eventually came up with “United We Dance,” which is an experience-based EDM rave party that has traveled to many different cities across the country.
The goal was to create an atmosphere that would bring the mainstage energy to clubs across the country. I had a couple of DJs I knew previously and we threw our first show on January 21st, 2022.
Less than a year later, we have sold over 10,000+ tickets nationwide and have toured through over seven cities.
This past year has been a crazy ride and I’m still constantly thinking of ways to take us to the next level, whether that be through branding, improved marketing techniques, or adding other production elements.
The goal is to be a nationwide brand and have shows in every state throughout the year.
United We Dance has helped me grow tremendously as a creative since I’m utilizing my video, marketing, promoting, social media, financial, and management skills.
In addition to United We Dance, I still work freelance in video production and digital marketing. This year, I hope to jump back more into the video production side of things, which is where I originally thought I was going when I moved here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been a completely smooth road, but I had this concept very much thought out before I pulled the trigger and did it.
I’m still learning the markets across the country and how to strategically throw events to ensure we are doing our best. It can be very stressful at times, but I love it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in a combination of Video and Event production for the most part.
I’m a problem solver at heart and am able to analyze a situation or problem and execute a plan to yield high-quality results. By having a multi-faceted background, I can look at it from all perspectives and produce a unique product.
I’m very technical in my work but also able to take a step back and see things from other’s perspectives.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I loved going to Kings Dominion and riding/admiring the roller coasters.
