Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Baratta.
Hi Carl, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m an artist and art organizer. I got started professionally over half my life ago (which is crazy) but I love it so I stay at it. I’ve worked with various galleries ranging from commercial venues to non-profits. Over the past decade, I’ve spent a lot of time working closely with the arts community and am part of several collectives. I also help organize large-scale national and international exchanges. Locally I was a founding and still active member of an art pop-up initiative that takes place in outside locations. This was conceived during the pandemic and has evolved over time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s gotten smoother, but DIY organizing is never smooth. That’s OK though, the challenge of getting these events and exchanges off the ground is part of the learning process.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a painter, printmaker, and love to draw. I’ve shown around the world and nationally. I love showing work and talking about art and art history. But what really gets me moving these days is working closely with the community. It’s a constant reevaluation on my part since it’s a balancing act, but it’s fun.
If you’re interested, here’s a couple of my most recent projects that I’ve loved working on and organizing:

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Delegating. It’s about trust in others but also knowing when to give people space to do their thing. It’s probably one of the most important things I’ve learned along the way.
