Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille James Harman.
Hi Camille James, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana, as Camille Meaux. I was a horse girl, and I loved school. I went to Academy of the Sacred Heart with Salma Hayek in 8th grade. During my last year of college I began acting in the local community theatre after doing a stint as a prop mistress. Watching the actors from backstage, I thought, “That looks fun, I bet I can do that.” After graduating,, I moved to Richmond, VA, and continued acting on stage. In 1991, I got a teaching assistantship at the University of New Orleans, so I returned to Louisiana to get my MFA. In New Orleans I acted on stage, and in TV, film, commercials and music videos. I was even cast by visiting, Los Angeles ,TV producer Brandon Tartikoff for a demo pilot shot in New Orleans.
I moved to Los Angeles with my actor boyfriend in 1995. I had my SAG card, my MFA, a great rental house in Silverlake, and a great day job, but my career took a detour when I had a UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) sighting and was subsequently abducted by aliens from 1995-1996. My life took a different turn. I wrote for “UFO” magazine, traveled to Roswell and the crop circles of England. My boyfriend and I broke up.
I married my husband, Jeff Harman, a professional astrologer and UAP experiencer. We lived in Beverly Hills and had a son. Then we moved to Tucson, AZ for ten years, returning to Los Angeles in 2015. I had to start over with my career, so I acted in student films at USC, UCLA, Dodge/Chapman and AFI to get reel clips and experience with my acting in my older age range. I did a lot of background work and took acting classes. My big break came when I was cast as Mary Matalin in the Oscar-winning film “Vice.” I worked with Christian Bale and Steve Carell. I hired a publicist and attended Awards-related events. Then I booked S10E1 of “Shameless.” When COVID hit, work was shut down, then eventually affected by vaccine mandates. I worked where I was allowed on set as an unvaxxed person. I booked a Lifetime movie, a bunch of verticals, YouTube sketches, some commercials and music videos.
At 59 years old, I’ve really enjoyed my acting career. I also am writing a book about my experiences with UAPs and non-human intelligences. I’ve made wonderful new industry friends since I became a founding member of Hollywood Disclosure Alliance, which pushes for governmental disclosure regarding UAPs and non-human intelligences. I am frequently a guest on podcasts and I’ve appeared in many UAP documentaries.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
From 1988-2005, I supported my acting career with various day jobs such as zoo keeping, substitute teaching, faux finishing and catering. From 1995-now I’ve had to deal with my interest in UAP and alien abduction experiences. I took a big break in AZ to enjoyed raising our son. I starting going to Mass while living there. I returned to L.A., and right when I was having a career peak in 2020, COVID hit and shut everything down. So, I delivered Door Dash in Ventura County, which was actually quite fun. I was able to listen to podcasts and take photos of beautiful scenery. When the vaccine mandates hit, I was excluded from some acting jobs. Then Hollywood had more strikes and more economic drama, so productions left town for greener, cheaper pastures. I wanted to leave too.
My husband and son love it here, so I help my husband with his astrology business. I do make the most of living in Los Angeles. It is exciting here, and I’m able to connect with many UAP experts, attend UAP conferences and be myself in documentaries, as well as act. I’m still represented, still working, and staying flexible.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have many fond memories from my time on stage. In Richmond, I originated the role of Krista in “Ropeswing.” I played Lady Anne in “Richard III” in New Orleans, outdoors at City Park, where we had a horse on stage. I also cherish my first SAG role in New Orleans, working with Annabeth Gish in the World War II drama “Silent Cries,” starring Gena Rowlands, who told me I had a beautiful name.
It was fantastic playing Mary Matalin in “Vice.” For three days, I worked with Christian Bale, who had transformed into Dick Cheney. He was mesmerizing. I also wrote a letter to the real Mary Matalin, and I received a letter from her the day after “Vice” won an Oscar. I framed it.
My friend Kati Rausch wrote roles for us in her short film “Tigerlilly,” for which I won two best actress awards. I also love doing music videos. I’ve worked with Modsun, Kenzie, and Sabrina Carpenter. I loved acting singer Michael Buble whe I was in a funny social post we shot for Christmas years ago. I also had the honor of doing an emotional audition with Jonathan Roumie of “The Chosen,” years ago when he was playing Jesus in the Passion Play at his church in Santa Monica. He’s a treasure. I acted in a biblical film, “The New Manna,” not yet released. That was a great experience.
I’m probably most known for playing the villain Lauren in “The Double Life of my Billionaire Husband,” the first of nine vertical dramas in which I appear. I was interviewed by the “New York Times” for a story on verticals. I’m also known amongst teens for playing the teacher in “My Daughter Survives World’s Strictest School,” a sketch with Salish Matter on Jordan Matter of YouTube. Both of those projects have tens of millions of views.
What sets me apart is my willingness to act in a variety of media. I’m proud of most of my work, especially my willingness to speak publicly on the UAP issue. I’m happiest balancing work with family and personal interests like travel. I produce occasionally, and I’ve been a supporter and investor in Angel Studios, a wonderful company.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned to be flexible, follow my instincts, stand up to tyranny, and always search for the truth. We live in exciting times.
