Life & Work with Caitlyn Mackenzie Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlyn Mackenzie Green.

Hi Caitlyn Mackenzie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passions have led me to where I am now. I grew up as a competitive, technical dancer in Utica, New York which led me to getting my BFA in Dance from the University at Buffalo. I take pride in my college education because without it, I would not have made the decision to move to LA. Almost four years ago, I moved to LA and jumped right into the dance industry. Eventually, I found myself in fitness classes that I fell in love with. Within a year of living in LA, I had begun teaching fitness classes at Millennium Dance Complex, Playground LA, Novo Body Fitness, and Gold’s Gym. Balancing dance and my newfound passion for fitness was difficult, but again, I am very proud of my degree because I have knowledge in Kinesiology which only increased my awareness for how the muscles move and I have the body awareness. Having already a background in dance, passing my NASM CPT Exam came naturally and so does my ability to train my clients in personal training. My current pursuit in dance is commercial work and performing Latin dance styles. New York and LA are both my homes, therefore I hope to build a business where I can help from coast to coast.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has definitely had its ups and downs, but I am still grateful for the downs because it only pushes me to be better and work harder. Being homesick has been a major struggle. I fill my apartment with pictures, scents, and decor that help me picture being in the country and I try to spend a good amount of time outside in parks or fresh air to cope with that nostalgia. As a dancer and personal trainer, it has been difficult to make sure that I am working on specific goals for each career because they are both my passions. I believe that my hardest struggle is to let go of my original dreams that I had when I first moved to LA. However, my heart doesn’t feel like my dreams for my career have changed. If anything, I now feel that I have more clarity and specificity in what I want for my own future business which I am currently pursuing right now. Unfortunately, I have one final struggle. We are our environments. It is easy to get caught up in the LA life, so I find that it is important to stay grounded and be aware of whom we surround ourselves with. See the value in yourself and others. Even in times of loneliness, it is important to know that you are valuable.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work is continuously growing. It all started when I would visit my hometown in Utica, New York, after training with some of the best-known heel dancing instructors here in LA. I’ve taught multiple heels classes each time I visit because I want to share how I feel every single day in LA. I can be myself in LA without the worry of someone judging me for dancing with sex appeal. Sexually expressing myself through dancing in heels is empowering. This then led me to how I would feel at the gym as I was learning how to maneuver around weight lifting. Females in the gym with little experience may feel uncomfortable lifting, so I want to take the energy and confidence I provide from the safe space of my heels classes to the gym.

I want my female clients to be confident while training with me and on their own. My business is called “Mack.” It is split up into different sections with the theme of Connecting the Dots. Dance is called “Mack Constellations” and my fitness section is called “Mack it Happen.” I also have two more collections that I am building called “Mack a Wish” and “Mackie Girl.” “Mack a Wish” comes from me pursuing my career in modeling and the creativity of making videos fully about knowing that you are the leading role in your movie called “life.” Lastly, “Mackie Girl” is a lifestyle collection. “Mackie Girl” is about staying rooted and true to who you are while following your dreams. “Connect the Dots” is basically about figuring it out as we go and experiencing life in the present. We are learning who we are and that is not always easy, but I intend to better myself each and every day. The star theme of the business comes from the freckles I have from head to toe. My best friend would always ask me if he could “connect the dots” with a sharpie when sitting behind me in English class. At the time, I truly disliked my freckles and now I know that they set me apart from others. They are a part of what makes me proud of the business that I am creating.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice is to find a mentor that you truly value as a person. Be consistent in their classes and ask questions. Show your work ethic, but also be who you are! In any industry, people are hiring you knowing that they are going to see YOU during those long work hours so it is important that your personality glows. Get specific with your goals and follow that path! If you’d like to ask any questions or check out what I am working on for “Mack,” I can keep you updated through my instagram @mackgreenofficial_ .
