Life & Work with Brooklyn Jai

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Jai.

Hi Brooklyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career as a young boy in Stockton California. When I was little, I used to tell everybody I was going to be a star. So I joined a dance group called sick with it, which was the best dance group in the city. I danced with them for a few years until I was kicked out of the group…It broke my heart because I loved it so much, but I guess it was the push I needed to move to Hollywood to become something more. So I packed everything that I had & moved to LA with $1800 in my pocket… that didn’t last too long for I was out on the street living in Tujunga Park in North Hollywood for seven months… It was really tough for me, A lot of cold and lonely hungry nights, but I still had a dream which I believe was the one thing that kept me going strong! I still trained at Millennium Dance Complex, Debbie Reynolds and the edge where all the other professional dancers trained at! Some of my favorite teachers were Leslie Scott, Dave Scott, Kennis marquise, Brian Friedman, And Shane Sparks who is actually the first person who gave me my first opportunity to dance behind the artist name Angel Faith!! It honestly changed my life forever because it was something I always dreamed of, and I was on stage on tour making it happen! But being that it was my first tour and I was so young, I just blew through that money so fast which put me out on the street for several more months! Until one day, I made a pact with myself that I’m going to work extremely hard to never be in the situation ever again, so I started doing extra work for television shows such as girlfriends, one on one, on UPN network .. and music videos!!! From there, I saved my extra work money… got an apartment, started teaching at millennium dance complex as a jazz-funk teacher, and my style of fast movement, fun music and Choreo hit the internet which took off making me an internet sensation!!! Getting the attention of artists such as IGGY Azalea, J balvin, YG, Gashi… Hooman & Kamron, just to name a few. And also teaching in a dance convention called Hollywood connection which is absolutely the best!!! Till this day, I work extremely hard, still choreographing, performing and running many business!!! I’m very proud of myself and how far I come!!! Now I’m the one creating opportunities and jobs for other dancers who move to LA with a dream!!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes, being homeless with no money or no car was the toughest… but I got through it… and survived…

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am now a recording artist, celebrity Choreographer, world traveler, clothing brand owner called king Me clothing… and I just opened my own food truck called King Me Tacos, which is doing very, very well. 😊

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you have a dream, never ever give up or let anyone talk you into giving up!!! If I can make it happen, anyone can! All it takes is a drive, dedication, and hard work… it may get dark on some days but the light at the end will be all worth it !!
