Life & Work with Brandon Moreno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Moreno.

Hi Brandon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a senior in high school when I got really invested into visual arts and being a creative overall. I was working at a restaurant at the time for five days a week while also being a full-time student. I started practicing videography, photography, and editing every time I was at home or had the chance. Sometimes I would get home late at around 10 PM and I would practice editing until 4 am and go to school at 7. Eventually came graduation and college. I quit my job and focused on school while also practicing my editing. I was always really into the gaming space and when it came down to it my niche for editing was for content creators and influencers. I tied two and two together and starting editing for gaming organizations. Come 2020 and I was freelancing for two big gaming organizations known as TSM (Team SoloMid) and FaZe Clan. I was working on really big projects and was making a decent amount of money for my age. I wanted to focus more on my career and what I enjoy doing so I took some time off school to focus more on my freelance projects. My parents weren’t too happy about that but it just drove me and pushed me more to show them what I’m able to accomplish within the space. November of 2020, I started a media agency company with a couple of my best friends and within a year, we were able to work with some big brands such as HyperX, Queued Up, and Monster Energy. We surpassed our goals and definitely saw the potential within a short amount of time. In July of 2021, TSM offered me a full-time position to move from Miami to Los Angeles and do production for them. So I packed my things and had a single week to move out there. It was scary at first, considering I’ve never lived by myself let alone across the country. Never would I have imagined how far I would get within such a short amount of time.

Some people who have helped me a lot since I’ve moved out to LA.

Anthony Joshua Porras – When we were both freelancers, we would help each other out and give each other clients. One of the best people I’ve ever had the chance of working with.

Yan Shalomov – Yan is the first person I met in LA. He helped me and gave me a place to stay within a short notice. He’s one of my closest friends and one of the hardest workers I know.

Brandon Thomas – Another person I met when I first moved out to LA. He’s my other roommate and showed me around the city and introduced me to a lot of really cool people. Someone who looked out for me and I’ll always appreciate that.

Arya Hojati – Arya is one of the funniest people I’ve met. He’s hard-working and always motivates me to do better and work harder. Glad we got to become such close friends within a short amount of time.

Majd Khader – Majd is another roommate of mine who cares a lot about me. He would go banging on my door at 7 AM just to make sure I’m up and feeling okay. Majd is one of the coolest and caring people I know.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I dedicated a lot of time to my career and it cost me friendships and even distance from my family. I was so invested on doing what I love that it started to affect the ones who love me. I was dating someone at the time and we were both young and fresh out of high school. She pretty much had her life figured out and I had no idea what I was going to do. Between college and how badly I wanted to be the best at what I do it costed our relationship because my focus wasn’t on her or my friends. I don’t regret what I was doing because I was setting myself up to be successful. There would be weeks even a month or two where I would have no work or projects and I would spend that time constantly practicing. It was over working mindset I had and that’s a struggle that a lot of people have. It’s okay to take breaks and take it slow.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do a lot of things in my field. Editing, managing, marketing, videography, and photography. I work closely with content creators and influencers to market themselves on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. I would edit their videos while also coming up with titles, thumbnails, captions, and advertising. When it comes to my full-time job at TSM I mainly work production and I edit sizzle reels, montages, and content moments. The moment I’m most proud of is getting that full-time offer from TSM and showing my mom that I was moving to Los Angeles to work in the corporate office. I think what sets me apart from other creatives is that I can do more that one thing when it comes to production also what I’ve been able to accomplish at such a young age.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success in my opinion is being able to do what you love no matter the price, how you get there, and sacrifices you have to make.
