Today we’d like to introduce you to Bolor Saruul.
Hi Bolor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Northern California and moved to Los Angeles about eight years ago for my artistic dreams. That means I waitressed a lot. I’m still living those artistic dreams (not waitressing anymore but barista-ing), and have learned so much, like how to make a caramel macchiato and why tuna is so expensive. My love for film, theater, and art has stayed with me through this journey where I’ve picked up numerous skills, met many interesting people, and learned some of the biggest life lessons.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Was it a smooth road to get here? Lol, no. There are still bumps along the road as I speak! Some of my personal struggles have been my inconsistent habits, my trembling faith, and my perfectionistic tendencies that hinder success. I’m coming to find out that success means one is able to move forward regardless of how one feels. And it will always feel scary and messy. As for the other challenges, the only way is to be a little bit better each day than the day before.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actor with my training and experience mostly in the theater. I love theater! Most recently, I played Atsuko in Hero Theater’s production of “Tea”. It’s a play centered around Japanese women who have migrated to the Midwest after WWII for love and other reasons. One of the ladies dies a tragic death which brings all the other women together (as death always does), and in the process of grieving, personal transformations occur. What sets me apart, and what I’m most proud of, is my unique perspective. We all have unique perspectives. And artists should really hold that precious to their hearts.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Be patient, be kind, and have faith. And laugh as much as you can.
