Today we’d like to introduce you to Belle Le Grand.
Hi Belle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by a first-generation Jamaican mother and an Afro-Italian father. Growing up, my interests were primarily music-based. My father— being the main influence here— was a singer, guitarist and pianist. I spent most of my childhood singing and experimenting with the aforementioned instruments. After he passed, I continued my pursuit of music for a few more years, performing in venues like the Apollo Theater and The Jacob Javits Center. When I was 15 I was cast in my very first short film, which was shot on an iPhone 7. After this experience, I knew acting was what I was meant to do. I’d never felt so sure about anything else.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are struggles all along this road. There are days when I grapple with myself interpersonally of course, but I always remind myself that none of the spectacular things in life ever come easily. The most beautiful moments typically arrive after hardship. I embrace my journey and everything it comes with because I know I’ll never get to travel down this road again. Once I reach the finish line, life will look very different. So while I can, no matter how many hard questions I may ask myself, I just remind myself to stay calm and to stay patient.
I want to truly appreciate my accomplishments and in order to do that, I have to appreciate my struggles, no matter how defeated I may feel. I won’t ever really know success until I know all of the emotions that lead me there.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a film, television and voice-over actor from Brooklyn, NY most known for my work in the respective feature/short films FLOWERS (ABFF 2015, Nikyatu Jusu) and BLIGHT (ABFF 2020, Brittany Clemons.) I’ve been acting professionally since I was 16 and moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduating college. Everyday I work steadfastly to ensure acting is my primary career.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
God, first and foremost, deserves all of the credit for my story. My parents are also responsible for everything I am. I am so incredibly grateful to have had such a hard-working duo bring me into this world and raise me. My mother is extremely diligent and supportive, and my father was just the wisest, most benevolent person I’ve ever known. My ambition most definitely comes from them. My ‘nana’ is also one of my biggest supporters, always motivating me in any and everything I do. My aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and cousins are also some firm, beautiful presences I have in my life. My cousins are my best friends. I’m so blessed to have such a large family and strong friendships that reassure and comfort me. I wouldn’t be who I am without them.
