Life & Work with Avery Davis of Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Davis.

Avery, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I think my journey really all began when I was just a little kid. I remember watching Transformers when it was released in theaters and thinking to myself how cool it would be to be in that movie. I’d come home from school and take all my toys and lay them out on the floor for one giant battle. Sometimes I’d record it. I always liked playing characters and in school people thought it was weird. Well a small referral to my mom and over a decade later and here I am being weird for a living.

It’s honestly the greatest thing in the world to be privileged enough to follow your dreams and get paid to do it. I was an actor at 7 years old and had a LOT of set experience as I grew up. I had consistent auditions for killer projects but could never really land one. Eventually every event from 2019 – 2022 pushed me so far away from what I knew about acting I had to start over. Enter a space like the last 10 years didn’t exist.

I went to college where I got a bachelors degree in Filmmaking. Focused on Directing and Screenwriting. I made a short film that won some awards, joined an acting class, reconnected with my new agent after learning I outgrew my old one, guest starred alongside one of my Hollywood Idols Angela Bassett on 9-1-1 and worked compiled work that finally proved to myself and the world that I meant business. All of this happened in 2024.

Where I am now? I sit on the bench waiting for my call into Hollywood! I don’t get many auditions, but when I do they are big ones and one of these days it’s gonna be one that changes my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. This industry is unforgiving and will move without you. You’ve heard it before; Actors complain about how much the industry sucks but how much they love being apart of it. It’s true in the sense that it’s a very tough, love-hate relationship. It’s taken me a long time to find my community in this industry. Theres a lot of fake people. Ego driven characters. The biggest struggle has always been finding out how to spot those people because if you don’t they’ll slow you down.

The biggest struggle right now is how hard it is to be cast, or auditioning. 2026 has a promising pilot season, and I have a few projects on my radar I’d love the chance to get involved with. My advice is you can’t sit around and wait for the call, sometimes you have to go and knock on the door, slide a note through the cracks. Find the will to do what others will not.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in crazy. It’s definitely my most notable performance are the ones where my character is just not having the best time. I’m an old soul. I carry myself tall and that shows on screen. I’m most known for my robbery scene with Angela Bassett. But those who’ve known me longer know me for working with Spielberg on Ready Player One. As a storyteller I gravitate toward Sci-Fi or period pieces. I’ve been developing an IP that I do hope one day will see the glimmer of the silver screen. It’s massive. It’s been in the works for years and years and really it’ll all come together at the right time. It’s the Avatar to my James Cameron, or the Star Wars to my George Lucas. I love big picture.

I think that sets me apart from other creatives today. I’m still fascinated by the spectacle of cinema. I definitely aim to bring audiences to other worlds.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Oh, there’s a few I must give credit. My crew at Studio 24/7 having my back, supporting my journey. My family being the greatest support of my life. My Sister for thinking I’m the coolest person ever. My mentors over the years who have all contributed to who I am today and still teach me new things. My boxing coaches teaching me the power of dedication, discipline, and resilience. And my close friends who have been there at my best and at my worst.
