Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Teodora Dick.
Hi Angie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Acting for me started out as “just a far-fetched dream” I had as a child. I grew up in Northern California, a rural town called Redding. I participated in school plays and musicals growing up; I constantly performed for my grandparents, but also suffered through a huge case of stage fright during my teen years that felt debilitating and was very embarrassing for me at the time. After graduating high school I took the normal route of finding a “real job” but every time I tried something new I got redirected back to acting. In my gut I knew I had to follow my heart, so I finally decided to make my move to LA, which was exciting and also very daunting. Fortunately with a lot of determination and perseverance, all these years later I know I made the right choice.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s always said over and over that nothing worth it, is ever easy. I can attest to that! My biggest challenge has always been “myself”. I have had many doubts throughout my journey, felt defeated, fallen flat on my face only to crawl into a corner and hide from the world….to put it lightly. What I’ve learned in those moments, was how to find the strength within myself to get back up and try again. Reminding myself “Why am I here?” and realizing that my failures have ultimately helped me grow as a person and have strengthened my skills as an artist. This always propels me to keep moving forward towards my dreams.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Thus far in my career I’ve had the opportunity to play a lot of different types of characters. I’m what you’d call a multi-racial and ethnically ambiguous actor, but more than that I call myself a storyteller. I’m proud that I have been able to persevere and look forward to each new day, because I know I’ve just barely scratched the surface. The things I’ve learned on the way, the relationships I have gained, the experiences and places I’ve gotten to go, all happened because once upon a time this little girl had a dream and I’m choosing to NOT give up on that dream. Now as things begin to open back up again, I continue to push forward and I’m excited to announce that I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of two feature films this year that are currently in Post-production, The Nix (part of the 2021 Pre-Cannes screening), Triple Threat (to air on Lifetime), and a Comedy short making its way through the festival circuit, Mutiny! (winning Best Picture/Comedy/Action Short Film at 3 Film Festivals – Houston Comedy FF, London International SFF, & Manhattan FF)
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
“Risk” is an interesting concept to me. It’s something that we all do every day we choose to get out of bed and walk out the door, but yet the word seems so scary sometimes. My thoughts are that life in itself is “one big risk” no matter what, so I might as well trust myself, make choices that I feel are right for me, knowing I will always be exactly where I’m meant to be in this moment.
