Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Wilbers.
Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for spiritual practices has been with me for as long as I can remember. One of my favorite childhood memories is when my mom took me to a local spiritual shop, where I had my first reading at just seven years old. To this day, we still visit spiritual shops and get tarot readings together. We always make it a tradition to go to Renaissance faire and have our palms read.
As I grew older, my passion for spirituality deepened, though I remained a closeted witch until my late 20s. In eighth grade, I decided I was going to work in the Film and TV industry. It became my obsession and my whole personality. Every decision I made from that moment on was about moving to California and breaking into the industry. I did a lot of manifestation work during that time, and when I finally moved to California, I put my spiritual practices on the back burner, becoming fully focused on my career.
I worked hard to climb the ladder, always thinking that the next job, the next promotion, would finally bring me joy. But it never did. I struggled a lot in the industry, especially as I started reconnecting with my spiritual self. I began questioning if this path was truly right for me. Through deep shadow work, I came to the realization that it wasn’t.
During the pandemic, I made the life-changing decision to leave my career in Film and TV to pursue my spiritual business full-time. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Helping people realign with themselves and their paths brings me so much fulfillment. Looking back, even in my old career, I was already helping people—whether it was coworkers coming to my office or catching me on my lunch break to ask for advice about their careers, love lives, families, and personal struggles.
Now, for the past few years, I’ve run my own spiritual business, offering tarot readings, runes, tea leaf readings, spiritual matchmaking, and creating products to help others enhance their own practices. And I’ve loved every single minute of it. I love my community, I love helping people, and I love witnessing the transformations of those I’ve guided. Running a business is hard work, but when you’re doing what you love, it never really feels like work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I left my production career, I mourned the old me and the lifestyle I had built. It had been a part of me and my entire identity for 16 years. I started working in production at 16, went to a trade school in high school for video production, studied Film and TV in college, and worked in the industry. It was all I had ever known, and without it, I felt lost.
Trying to find my way, I started a pet photography business, and just as it was finally gaining momentum, the pandemic hit and shut it down. Once again, I found myself lost.
During the pandemic, I began making runes, and something inside me clicked and I wanted to start a spiritual business full-time.
Starting my spiritual business was both exciting and terrifying. I was stepping into something entirely new, and I feared people would see me as an imposter or that I wouldn’t be good enough to be part of the community. But I took a leap of faith and put myself out there, even though it made me feel incredibly vulnerable. Along the way, I learned so much. As I kept showing up, those fears slowly faded.
As I grew, so did my business. It’s not the same as when I first started, and that’s okay. I’ve learned that it’s natural to evolve and shift in alignment with your true self. Sometimes, the plans we make don’t work out the way we expect, but that’s often because something even better is waiting for us.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an eclectic witch, I embrace a wide range of spiritual practices and traditions. I have the unique ability to read tarot cards, runes, and tea leaves, offering deep insights to those seeking guidance. Through my readings and classes, I help people connect with their personal magic and gain clarity on their current paths. I also specialize in guiding others to connect with their spirit guides.
In addition to my spiritual services, I create handcrafted Middle Ancient Egyptian spell and devotee necklaces, featuring real papyri and crystals. Each piece is custom-designed to support individuals on their spiritual journey, enhancing personal growth and deepening their spiritual connection.
What I’m most proud of is witnessing the transformations of the people I’ve guided. I’ve had clients make incredible 180-degree shifts in their lives. One client in particular went from feeling lost to finding true happiness. Seeing that kind of growth is what makes my work so fulfilling.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
If you’re looking for a mentor, I recommend doing your research to find someone who aligns with you. Don’t be afraid to reach out and many people are happy to help or can connect you with someone who’s a better fit.
For me, some of the topics I was interested in were difficult to find mentors for, so I turned to books, social media, and films. I was self-taught for a while, guiding my own learning. I’ve always loved reading, and books became some of my greatest mentors.
One day, I watched a documentary and felt an instant connection with one of the women featured. Her energy resonated with me, so I followed her on Instagram. During the pandemic, she began teaching classes, and I signed up. She became my mentor. Over time, I met vendors at events, who also became mentors and guides along my journey.
You never know where you’ll be or who you’ll meet. I’ve built an incredible network through vending at events, and my neighboring vendors have become both friends and connections. We support each other, sending clients and opportunities one another’s way. Community is everything and we have to lift each other up.
