Life & Work with Andreas Pita Andreas of Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreas Pita Andreas.

Hi Andreas Pita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a 30-year-old pastry chef with 16 years of experience in the industry. I started my journey at 14 years old in a small bakery in my hometown in the south of France. After earning my pastry certification, I moved to Nice to work for a chef who encouraged me to explore opportunities abroad.

Thanks to his support, I joined Ladurée as an international sous chef. After two years of training in Paris, I was assigned to several of their international locations for 9 years, including Tokyo, Sydney, Washington D.C., New York, and eventually Los Angeles.

When I arrived in LA, I discovered a new passion: golf. That sparked the idea to create a pastry concept inspired by the sport. Around the same time, I launched my first business, a wholesale pastry company that supplies high-end coffee shops and restaurants with desserts and breakfast items.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Traveling can be beautiful, but the road is definitely not easy, between language barrier, cultural differences, cost of living and find a way to adapt fast to a new environment
Launching a business in LA is demanding specially with no money and no knowledge but you find one client who believe in you and the dream come true

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My main activity is the wholesale business , but I am getting more and more contract with privates for custom order as a example , I recently create a Tennis ball in pastry for the WTA rebranding , I have partner with an artist to recreate his painting on my pastries , custom pastries for Dior and my next project is a custom cake for Woody Harelson where I will reproduce his logo as a cake by creating a big 3d mold and then create my silicone mold with it

Birdie Cakes is the product that I am the most prod off, I recreate a perfect golf ball, sell as a golf ball, in the same size and style packaging as a real one

Pricing:

  • Birdie Cakes 9 balls : 60$
