Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea LaRosa.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was living in England as a filmmaker and my visa ran out so I had to return back to the US. I didn’t want to go back to the film industry here and really wanted a career I could feel good about, help others. I went to a speed dating event and realized it wasn’t much different than producing a film, in fact it looked easier. I started hosting local speed dating events but I quickly realized I needed to help even more. I’d coach my speed daters on best practices but that wasn’t enough. I had a talent for the coaching side but wanted to be qualified to help people and got certified in every and anything relationship related. I coached for a few years and continued to host in-person events from San Luis Obispo to San Diego. But then the pandemic hit and while people needed coaching more than ever, my singles events ended. That was how I marketing my coaching. A year ago I made the shift to include matchmaking and now I integrate coaching into my matchmaking business. Luckily, we are back to in-person events as well and I’m excitedly scheduling the 2023 year for singles events again.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are so many challenges being an entrepreneur. But one of the biggest challenges, not just being an entrepreneur, but being single and in the field of teaching people best dating practices, that brought on all new challenges. When I first started my business I was in a long-term relationship but when it ended and I needed to start dating again I didn’t realize what I had gotten myself into. It’s typical to find out what you do for a living on a date. But when these men heard what I did for a living, it was date over, no second date. In fact, I had men google me before the date and some of them quoted my own advice back to me. It was a hot mess. It was a challenge I wasn’t prepared for. Turns out I’m not the only one who experiences this, it happens to a lot of matchmakers and dating coaches. It’s been 5 years since the breakup, I’ve had relationships since but my business always gets in the way. They break things off with me and tell that it’s just too intimidating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started with date coaching but shortly began breakup and relationship coaching. I have done that for 6 years along with the in-person singles events. A year ago I published my first book, Get the Girl: Dating the High Value Woman. It was a dating guide for both men and women where I shared industry secrets but also my own personal dating stories. But those are not even what I’m known for…it’s my matchmaking that sets me apart. I set my clients up on blind dates. I completely vet both parties and spend time getting to know my client’s date. If I feel they are a good fit then I begin researching great date ideas for them. It’s never a dinner or drinks date, those they can do off the apps. These are fun yet low-key adventure dates. They usually last for 3 hours and allow them to be active while getting to know each other. This way the focus isn’t all about getting to know one another, it’s also about sharing in this new experience together. I’ve sent couples on Fall-time apple picking with a picnic date, to ax throwing and ice cream cruises. I find that sending them on a blind date allows them to just enjoy the process of dating. They feel comfortable because they know I’ve background checked and vetted their date.

2 years ago I started a podcast with the most amazing cohost! We are on season 4 of the show and it’s been a huge catalyst for my own growth. He has helped me get out of my shell and that has allowed me to grow, personally and professionally.
