Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Espalin.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been fascinated with skincare and hair removal as I struggled with acne as a teen and thick bushy eyebrows lol I knew I wanted to get the esthetic field but just didn’t know how or where to start. I got married and had three kids and never found the time to really focus on my career and it wasn’t until my youngest son started preschool I said to myself, this is my year to focus on me and what makes me happy. I enrolled at Santa Monica College Esthetician program and immediately knew this was what I was meant to do. I finished my required salon hours in a little over a year and passed my state board exam and quickly started looking for a place where I could hang my license and start working on clients. I found my little beautique on Instagram and noticed it was only a mile from my house. I met with the owner and started the following week, I have been there nine months and couldn’t be happier. I work with amazing clients and can create my own schedule and still have time for my family.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest struggles along the way of getting where I am today was figuring out how I would balance my personal life like spending enough time with my husband and kids.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work in skincare and I specialize in facials, lash lifts, brow and body waxing. Originally when I started my career, I planned to only offer facials and body waxing to clients. However, when the pandemic hit I had a lot of time on my hands so I decided to try some training in something different, I went and trained in lash lifts and brow laminati0ns and now I would say 75% of my clients see me for lash lifts and brow laminations. I still enjoy doing facials and body waxing but I am most proud of how far I have come and in such little time and during a pandemic, I am able to make a name for myself now.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I would consider myself a cautious risk taker in that I am always willing to venture into new things and or offer new services however I do a lot of research before stepping into anything. I think my biggest risk I ever took was deciding I was going to step outside my comfort zone (being a stay home mom for 12 + years) and focus on myself and do something for me that made me happy. That’s when I started studying in my esthetic program.
