Life & Work with Allan de Leon of Los Feliz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allan de Leon

Hi Allan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story begins in the Philippines, where I moved to America at the tender age of 2. With both parents working, I spent much time with babysitters and the TV, which sparked my love for films and helped me learn English.

Years later, that same love saw me entering the entertainment industry, starting at Walt Disney Animation Studios, where I gained insights into storytelling through osmosis and through my wonderful boss. There’s no other place better to absorb story than the wizards of Disney and Pixar. I later transitioned to a Production and Management Company which gave me live-action experience, but the 2007 Writers Strike led to a downsizing, and I was among those affected.

Fortunately, I helped with “Need for Speed: The Movie,” offering script notes, which led to a role in Electronic Arts’ Creative Marketing Department for Mobile and Social Gaming. This experience was like a free graduate program in digital marketing.

Next, I joined Machinima, a dynamic start-up where I wore many hats and became YouTube Certified, witnessing the rise of new forms of content. After its acquisition by Warner Bros., I found myself jobless again.

However, EA invited me back, expanding my work on licensed products like Madden and FIFA, and later moving into agency life with firms like Media Arts Lab and TBWA Chiat Day. At David & Goliath, I had the chance to work on major projects, including a Times Square activation.

Eventually, I landed a job at Activision, a dream come true for a longtime Call of Duty fan. It’s been an incredible journey, and that’s where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My life’s story has had its ups and downs—it’s been quite rocky. My timing in the industry has often been unfortunate. In the early 2010s, during Hollywood’s contraction, Netflix hadn’t yet become the powerhouse it is today, and the content wars hadn’t started, which ultimately led to my departure from the industry.

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to work in film and tell stories. Although I had the opportunity to do so for a while, being forced out was painful and made me question my identity. Many don’t realize how tough it can be early in an entertainment career. I often canceled plans with friends to read scripts or network, but those experiences also helped me forge genuine friendships, which softened the blow.

The challenges in the ad and marketing agency world were equally tough. Depending on the projects, long hours were the norm. I worked on a major product launch that had me putting in 20 consecutive days, often from 8 AM to 4 AM. I remember sitting in my car, crying, unable to tell if I was just arriving or finally heading home. Looking back, I can laugh at the craziness, but I’m surprised I didn’t have a breakdown during that time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Creative Marketing Producer, and I often get asked, “What does that mean?” My role involves translating the requests of partners or clients into actionable projects. For instance, if they want to promote something through digital channels like social media or user acquisition advertising, I help the Creative Team understand their needs and deliver assets that meet those requirements—all within budget and on schedule.

What sets me apart? While I like to think my friendly demeanor helps, it’s really my diverse experience that makes a difference. My work history spans entertainment, digital marketing, gaming, and more, giving me a broad perspective. I’ve also done hands-on work, from editing to basic photo editing.

As for what I’m most proud of, it’s the network of professional contacts and friends I’ve built. I’ve connected with many amazing people who share my mindset. Additionally, I’m proud of successfully managing an intense 20-day product launch—though I can’t share the details due to NDAs!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
This city has so much to offer. The diversity of cuisine is a major highlight, especially with Michelin recognizing Los Angeles. With countless new restaurants opening, it truly is a food lover’s paradise.

I know I might get some backlash for this, but I’m not a fan of shrinking lanes to make room for bikes. The traffic is already terrible, and reducing lanes only makes it worse.
