Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbly
Hi ABBLY, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As cliché as it sounds, music has literally always been a huge part of my life. I sang before I talk, I started performing in live theatre when I was 2 years old. It is the one thing in my life that has always been consistent. I grew up in a small town in Virginia in a huge family of 8 kids. Growing up, I always knew I was different from the rest of my family and friends. I knew I was meant for more than what that town had to offer. I continued to study music and do everything musical I could all the way through college. Right after college in 2023, I moved to Los Angeles, and that is when I finally felt like I belonged. I released my first few songs back in Virginia, but I have been writing music since I was a kid. This past October I released my first single in Los Angeles, and I quit my full-time job as an Entertainment Publicist to pursue music full-time, and here we are!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is there really such thing as a smooth road as a musician? Let’s be real, when you tell your parents you want to be a pop star when you grow up, they don’t usually jump with joy and tell everyone they know. That being said, my parents were always supportive of my musical journey (doesn’t mean they didn’t STRONGLY encourage me to take any other stable job that came my way). I’ve taken those stable jobs. I’m kinda known as a job hopper, but it’s because absolutely nothing will satisfy me until I am doing music as a full-time career, and I will do anything it takes to get there. There’s been times when my inner-saboteur got the best of me and I started doubting my abilities, thinking of giving up my dreams and listening to everyone else who is telling me to get a “stable” job. However, I’ve always known that this life was destined for me, so no matter what I choose, I will always end up a successful musician at the end.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer, musical artist, gay icon many might say. I don’t like to confine myself to a genre, but if I had to say, I would say I lean into the alt-pop world. I have some music out on all streaming platforms under the name ABBLY, and a music video out on YouTube (FWB – ABBLY). I am extremely proud of that music video. I funded the whole thing out of my own pocket and am so grateful for all the amazing creatives that worked on that project with me. When people think of ABBLY, they think ICON. I do everything with confidence. Sometimes I’m a b*tch, but I’m a funny b*tch, so it’s okay.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Rupaul is my saving grace and his memoir (as well as everything that has ever come out of his mouth) has inspired me to live as my true, authentic self, and the world will love me for it. Also, I hate to say it, but as a musician, TikTok is really important in getting your music out there and connecting with your fan base. I have fans all around the world, it’s seriously such a diverse fandom, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.
