Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Griggs.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started making healing health tonics many years ago for family and friends. It is a deep passion of mine. I truly believe the key to life starts with good health. If you take care of the body, the mind will follow. What originally began as a fundraiser for my children’s school, became URTHCUR.
Almost a decade ago, I gave a big batch of my formula as a donation and it completely sold out in a few hours. Much to my surprise, I was inundated with requests for more! With each bottle I made, people would tell me how great they felt and at that moment, I knew my purpose and my passion were aligned.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been easy but it has been such a rewarding journey so far. The best views come after the hardest climbs, as they say! I love helping people and the feeling I get when someone leaves me a testimonial is profound. It keeps me going and fulfilling my purpose.
Some of the struggles I’ve experienced have been building a brand from scratch. If you aren’t passionate about what you are doing, the dream crushers will get to you. I once had a packaging guy tell me that I would most likely never make it and I should just go back to being a Mom. He was so arrogant and refused to even hear my ideas but said he would offer me life advice instead. So, I designed my own packaging and I absolutely love it!
That experience fueled me and when my product is finally on the store shelves of Erewhon, I will send him a little thank you note.
My advice to women just starting out is, if the dream is in your heart then never ever give up! You may hit many roadblocks along the way but don’t be deterred. Life is just seeing what you are made of and how bad you want it. Sometimes, the road less traveled is where all the magic happens. Oh, and never take life advice from some packaging guy!

As a brand, I am most proud of helping people. There is nothing better than making a difference in someone else’s life! I think the one thing I am known for is my work ethic. It doesn’t matter if I am volunteering at my children’s school or putting together an order for a customer, I’m going to overdeliver on that. It’s my personal mantra. Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I grew up in a small New England town surrounded by strong hard working women. My mother, grandmother and even all my amazing aunts were a huge influence on me. They always just made things happen, no excuses.
I had a really lovely and simple childhood picking fresh food from the garden, climbing apple trees and making a pie from scratch, and chewing gum straight from the spruce trees with my cousins.
Being resourceful was a way of life and it’s often the thing that makes me stand out from the crowd. If we wanted to be warm all winter long, then we had to chop and stack wood during the summer. If something broke, we learned to fix it or go without. These are the life skills I try to teach my sons, even though they are growing up in a very different time. “Never expect to be handed anything but always be willing to work for it.”
