Life & Work with Noah Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Scott.

Hi Noah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started making wigs at a super young age. They of course were not great by any means but ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a huge fascination with hair and more specifically hair additions like wigs and extensions. I continued making wigs all throughout school by watching youtube videos and just practicing through trial and error. When I first moved to San Diego, I experimented with my look a lot and would wear wigs when I would go out occasionally and being a man in a wig this obviously drew a lot of attention, most of it was very positive and I would get compliments almost everywhere I went. People would constantly ask where I purchased my wigs and I would explain to them that I made them myself which always lead to people asking me if I had a shop or sold them to others. It never really crossed my mind that I could turn something that I have done as a hobby since I was a kid into a legit business. So I began making more and more wigs and slowly starting to sell them to people in my town and friends I was close with until I officially started my Instagram WhatWigs in 2017. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with people I never imagined I would be working with and have really pushed myself to make the best wigs I can for my clients.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like with everything in life there are going to be some obstacles you have to overcome. One of which was definitely trying to find the best hair and lace to use for my wigs. There are thousands of different vendors of hair out there but finding the right one for your brand is crucially to separating you from everyone else. It took me well into two years and a lot of trial and error to find the perfect vendor that had the absolute best hair on the market. Another struggle was realizing what it took to be a business owner. I thought it would be a cakewalk and I would be able to do whatever I wanted but that was not the case. I really had to do a lot of research on how to successfully run a business on my own as this is the first time I had attempted to own a business and prior, I had only worked in retail.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a custom wig creator so what I do is basically cut, color and customize wigs for my clients, I specialize in doing super realistic looking wigs that can be worn for a natural everyday look or even a Hollywood red carpet. I feel like I am best known for my attention to detail when it comes to a super realistic looking hairline. The hairline is always a dead giveaway on if someone is wearing a wig or if it’s their natural hair so I take a lot of pride in making sure that the wig looks as natural as it possibly can. Something that I’m really proud of is being able to work with people that suffer from medical hair loss and really being able to give them that confidence from within to make them look in the mirror and feel beautiful again.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honesty and transparency is something that is super important to me and my business. So many times, I’ve seen companies lie and manipulate their customers with false claims and I personally don’t think that will give you longevity in whatever career path you are in.
