Life and Work with Neon Hitch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neon Hitch.

Neon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been a performer; I travelled around Europe as a child and entertained at various circuses and festivals. The singing never even started until I was 16. I was literally just humming in the back of a car and my boyfriend at the time was sat in the front and said, “Was that you singing? I’ve never heard you sing before!” And from then, he just pushed me and gave me the courage to turn it into a career. It’s taken many little steps that all lead to something bigger. I allow it to all come together very naturally on my journey – that’s kind of how it’s always been. I trust the universe and always have a vision of a destination. The hardest thing now is just keeping up with it all and trying to maintain the initial passion and motivation you have when you first start.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve had a lot of obstacles and challenges. It’s all about learning from them though and successfully equipping yourself so that you can always forward regardless of what life may throw at you. I have learned so much, things you can’t learn in school. I would say it’s really important to understand the business and know about the operation that takes place in handling your career. It’s easy to have the wool pulled over your eyes when you are told, “Just focus on the music don’t worry about the business. “Although that is a comforting feeling, you may wish you had paid attention back then. Don’t take people’s words for things, make sure you research everything!

Please tell us about Neon Hitch.
I’ve been doing music for more than half of my life now and have been lucky enough to tick so many things off my wish list. I’ve written songs for other artists and I write all of my own songs. I like to collaborate sometimes, but when it’s a song for my project, that has to come from my mind because I’m the one who’s experienced it. I want my music to sound authentic. I never see myself as just an artist though, I am a creative thinker and love to create unique, first-of-a-kind projects; for example, I set up the world’s first ever fan operated label Fan Label. I give the power to the fans unlike a lot of people – I think my genuine connection with my fans sets me apart and not to mention the upbringing I’ve had. I’ve never really been able to fit in even when I’ve tried! However, my fans will be able to look forward to a new album very soon!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
A few books I love are: ‘Spirit into Sound: The Magic of Music’, ‘The Secret’ and ‘The Power’. I love having material around me that I can take inspiration from. Whether I’m learning about shifting to a particular mindset that might change my whole day, or absorbing quotes that could spark a cool idea, I find that really special. Anything that adds value to my journey is really essential.
