Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Hunter.
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I previously worked in the hotel industry for over 12 years, however secretly always loved Fashion & Beauty. I have always strived to look great for all occasions and even had some people ask me for Fashion advice. Last year I purchased a Leopard & Flamingo cup not knowing they would come into great use a year later. I wasn’t sure what they would be for, but I loved them and said I wanted to use them for my future “store”.
I held onto them for a year and would look at them all the time and envision what their use would be for.
I had no plan at all but felt compelled to buy three of each kind. Fast forward to 2020 May. I had been furloughed from my job and now had the open availability to pursue my dream in Fashion. I decided to go online one day and start to purchase purses wholesale. Little did I know I would need a license to make this happen. I ended up buying purses and told the owner I promised to give them the permit when I got it. I then began to walk around the Fashion District and was told continuously that without the permit, I would not be able to purchase. So I went to my car and applied for the license and ran back to each store and showed them that it was in progress. Only two stores at the time said yes to me purchasing items from them. From there, I began to purchase from them and still do to this day. I would wake up each morning, workout, pray of course, then go to the Fashion District for hours shopping in the hot sun.
Then I would come home, shower, lay everything I purchased out and begin to watch videos on YouTube on how to build my website. I had my logo created, chose the colors, then officially picked the name for my company. I love Pretty Things, and I love Pink, so I didn’t want to call my store a Boutique, so I decided on “Pink Prettique”. Each day I would work hard to make sure each piece was of great quality and develop pricing that was affordable and reasonable. I would continuously strive each day to make my company a priority because my focus had now been completely Pink Prettique. I gave myself a Target date and had six weeks to complete the website, get everything uploaded and be ready to launch. Six weeks was a short time to do everything but I was determined to open by July 24th and I did.😉 All with God’s Grace.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was denied my first day shopping for my store due to my lack of license. I walked in the hot sun for 5 hours being told no. I applied for my permit and decided I was going to chase my dream anyway.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the CEO of Pink Prettique, Yellow Kacktus, and LipstickLash Beauty. I work in Fashion & Beauty. I am becoming a Licensed Medical Esthetician. While running my companies, I am going to school full time to pursue my dream of the owning my own salon one day.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My parents were the absolute storybook parents. They did everything in their power to give us a great childhood. My best memory was when my siblings and I used to all ride around the yard with our little vehicles. My sister Joanna, a golf cart, my brother Joey a 3 Wheeler, My little sister Christina was so young so she rode with my older sister, and I had a two seat go cart. That was one of The best memories.
