Life & Work with Luisa Alzate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luisa Alzate.

Hi Luisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started painting about three years ago for fun so I could experiment with colors and the different ideas I had at the moment. The more I did it, the more I realized how much I love abstract art and how much inspiration I was getting from so many wonderful artists. I started mixing really bright colors with black and dark brown and adding textures to make my paintings feel more alive.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had many obstacles so far. from trying to find my own voice and show my personality in my art, to self-doubt and sometimes not having inspiration, specially during quarantine but one of the biggest struggles has been to put my paintings out there, thankfully I have an amazing group of friends and my boyfriend that has made possible to find platforms where I can share and sell my art. A great support system is everything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a self-taught abstract acrylic artist from Pereira, Colombia and I’ve been living in the United States for around ten years. I love mixing bright and dark colors together in my paintings as well as adding textures to make them feel more alive. What I hope to transmit into my art is a sense of calmness that is decorated by all the emotions that are conveyed throughout each piece.
