Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenzie Harr.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in raised in Colorado. I am the eldest of five and extremely close with my entire family. I moved out to LA after a year of college in CO to pursue my career as a model and actress. I hit so many bumps along the way and it was really hard to pick up and leave everything I knew at home to follow my dreams. Along the way, I traveled a bunch, lived in Bali and would go back home as often as I could when things got tough but after a couple of years, I found my groove and my tribe in LA that helped lift me up career-wise and they became my little family in LA to help me from being so homesick! I’ve been a performer ever since I was born and as much as I love modeling acting is where my passion lies. I love becoming characters more than anything in the world and one of the only reasons I love to model as well is because I get to be made up as someone new in my mind and am always acting on set whether it’s an acting job or not. I’ve struggled a lot finding the right management which has made my career tough. I’ve had to be more reliant on myself to find or create my own opportunities. I am very diverse actress in that I love comedy and drama and have yet to find the right fit for a manager but finally have some good people in the works that seem to really understand me and where I want to go with my career. The Weeknd video TOO LATE just came out and it was by far my favorite project to date. I managed to book that without any rep but at this point in my career, I want to build a team with the same vision as me! I still study every week with Gregory Berg at Berg studios in LA and it keeps me working on my craft even through the craziness that Covid has brought upon us all! I live in an amazing bungalow in the Hollywood Hills with my two dogs – Pumba an old English bulldog and Blue a huskie rescue from Hollywood Huskies!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has definitely not been a smooth road and I have run into so many obstacles along the way. One of the hardest things for me was moving here not knowing many people and having to find the right people that align with my goals along the way. I am a firm believer in that you are who you surround yourself with and my journey living in LA has brought me through many different crowds but as I’ve grown, I have created a tribe of like-minded people with similar goals and dreams as big as mine. They help me stay focused and I do the same for them. Acting-wise it has been really tough because the competition is brutal here and I have been so close to so many life-changing roles but haven’t booked them at the last second. This has been a huge challenge for me because at first, I was not great at constant rejection but as time went on, I began to let it drive me even further. Now I look at not booking a role as an opportunity to drive me even deeper into my craft exploring new techniques, more classes, workshops, etc. to better myself because at the end of the day that’s all we can do!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am one of those people who always has about five jobs at once. This has been a blessing and a curse because as much as I want all my focus to rely solely on acting, I still have to fully support myself to be in LA. I book a lot of modeling work which I love and recently, I have been big into Creative Direction and styling. I love creating different characters on my own for modeling and acting stuff and love to get an incredible team together to create magic together and make the character come to life. Creative direction really excites me and gets my creative juices flowing. I just co-produced and editorial for Cayenne Agency Volume 3 called Quarantine Party of 1 that explored the different mundane and bizarre activities we all partook in over the quarantine. This character in particular was a bored housewife who began losing her mind all over in her house, sweeping the grass, lying in the pool with a full face of makeup on and a gown, watering the cactus, etc. I love to create a story with a team that we all collectively make come to life.
Another one was for a new HBO series coming out where I wanted to recreate the fabulous life of the Hollywood socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor. This was an incredible shoot one I am incredibly proud of and can’t wait to see it come to life when the series comes out! At this moment though, I am most proud of the Too Late video. The creative direction from the CLIQUA team and everyone involved was truly so inspiring and I was so lucky that I got to be a part of it. Creating that character was so much fun and something that really challenged me as an actress which is what I live for! I think what sets me apart from others is how much I enjoy life. Almost too much and it has been a big factor in distracting me from my goals but I am trying to find a balance! I truly love life and all the people and experiences I have along the way whether they are good or bad. To me, it’s all about the journey not the final destination. I also am fascinated with people’s careers and the why behind the way they live their lives which is why I wanted to become an actress in the first place. Other people’s lives fascinate me and I want to dig deep into other people’s perspectives to become them as a character.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to keep pursuing a lifelong career in acting. I want to keep learning and exploring acting and continue to create characters in film, television, music videos, etc. I also want to Creative Direct more projects and dive deeper into that world. I am really looking forward to the next steps in my career in building a team that is right for me and working my ass off to get to where I want to be where acting and solely acting is all I do.
