Today we’d like to introduce you to Kanya Sesser.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kanya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Thailand without legs. And was adopted at age 5-6 years old when I came to America. My first language was Thai, I was learning English when I was about 7-8 years old. Childhood life was difficult for me. I was trying so hard to understand everything and it was annoying when my parents couldn’t understand what I wanted because I didn’t know English, so getting things I want and showing them what I wanted was hard. School was tough for me because I was trying so hard to learn English, getting used to my surroundings and everyone there. Other than that, I have friends and a loving family that helps me during the times I needed people in my life.
As time goes by, I started getting into sports like skateboarding, tennis, surfing, track, basketball, mono-skiing and sled hockey. I already knew how to swim at age two. I got so good at the sports that I went to track meets and competitions all over the countries and states. Winning gold medals and getting recognition from the sports I do. I was trying to compete in the Paralympics and went to Switzerland for the Olympics games World Cup. During those times, Dream Factory from Oregon got me into modeling and that’s when I started to model and getting gigs. Then, after high school, I went to college then dropped out because I didn’t feel like college was for me and moved out to California. I was only going to stay in California for a year but then, I got recognition for my skateboarding, worked at the freak show, got into magazines, modeling and in music videos and acting. I was on The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, Code Black and Hawaii-five 0. After that, my life changed as of who I am now.
Right now, I am doing motivational speaking, acting in more tv shows and movies, modeling on a side job and most likely flying to different countries to be women advocate representing foster homes and working with Holt.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. But that’s life and the reason how I am who I am today. If it wasn’t for tough challenges and obstacles, I wouldn’t be as strong as women. And sometimes, we need to fall to get back up. It’s okay to not be okay, the universe got your back.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m an actress, model, speaker, athlete. I will be competing in the X Games in Minneapolis on August 1-4. And I will be women advocate for foster homes for Holt going to Cambodia. I’m a breaking boundaries model. And also I do my own stunts for tv shows and a working actress.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I don’t really listen to many podcasts but I do like Nick Vujicic story. I met him when I was only 15 years old. Never knew I was going to end up being someone like him. Also, my favorite book would have to be precious only because that’s the only book I have ever read that I liked on my own that hasn’t been picked out by teachers. Lol, and my favorite app would have to be Instagram. I use Instagram for business and it helps me connect with other artist and amazing people and opportunities.
