Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Yang.
Christina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
First of all, I am humbled and thrilled to share my story with anyone comes across today. I teach Pilates, crack bones and poke needles for a living. But, it’s early to tell I am set there. Even though I love what I do, I never believe that occupation is the definition that explains fully who you are or what your dreams are. Just like any of us, I am a dreamer with a big heart and passion. My motivation for my passion comes from believing that there will be good influence with my intention genuinely good. I love to share my passion for being fit in your lifestyle itself- not only physically, but emotionally and mentally. With my background of psychology degree and training in pilates/personal training, chiropractic, acupuncture, and holistic medicine, I cannot stress how important this is. We all need a little reminder for ourselves to increase life quality through little changes that you can make. For this reason, I blog on my website (easefulfit.com), Instagram (@christinasyang), Facebook (dr.christinasyang) and YouTube to share tips and info about health, well-being, and mindset. I am also planning on the product line and exciting platforms for sharing more information to promote a positive and healthy lifestyle.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not. I wish if I can say it was easy and took it like a superwoman. I learned it the hard way that success is not anywhere close to looking glamorous and being cool. My first challenge was learning to be independent on my own at the age of 12. I barely became a teenager but was put through being alone with my sister, who was the only other family member. Landing in New Zealand, I did not speak a word of English. It was what was expected of me to absorb like a sponge- the language, culture, being independent and solving problems. As challenging as it sounds, the upbringing from my parents was pricelessly valuable that I was surprisingly ready. I was lucky to have such a loving family that not only taught me how to be happy but to be strong at the same time. I grew up learning to be humble, responsible and positive from hard-working dad and wise mom. And my New Zealand hosting family was the same way. They took us to the travels to explore with them, spent much time with us and we shared our lives together. This experience was truly something that taught me how important to find your life mentors at a very early age.
Through the years I faced other obstacles like becoming a varsity swimmer from being scared of touching the water, acing SAT at only one given chance, and losing whooping 100 lbs of weight to become physically and mentally fit.
Then, my family loses our home. My parents had immigrated to the US a few years back, and the struggles to fit in with how little they knew, caught us into the major debt and led to bad decisions. I was a 2nd-year graduate student and almost dropped out of school to make money. We also got into car accidents and ended up totaling all three cars in the family. At this time, I broke up with a boyfriend of three years, was robbed twice and nearly failed from school while trying to finish two degrees in four years instead of 7.5 years.
Right after I graduate, I decided to take on a business offer to run my own medical office. Failed. Big time. But guess what? I never failed. This whole year was such a valuable lesson that nothing could be paid for. And I am very humbly grateful for that.
I went onto work for others, and I faced different problems. I once was not paid for three months worth of work I did, then I worked for someone who was just a rich dummy.
Then, I was called in to “invest” my work into a company which happened to be a scheme. There were some people who wanted to use me for their own good and screw me over with my personal information that was shared for business.
I learned so much about the business and the reality all throughout these opportunities, but moreover much more about myself. It never is a smooth road in the business or life itself. So, I learned to embrace the challenges with positivity and gratefulness for god that wants you to grow and be out of your comfort zone.
But I would say the biggest lesson I learned is to work on yourself. Exercise. Meditate. Study. Get yourself out there. Learn how to control your feelings. Elevate your mindset. Keep growing your passion, change your lifestyle positively little by little and study so you can get ready when opportunities come to your way. Never say no. At the end of the day, it is all in yourself.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Easefulfit – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My work involves a little bit of every aspect – healing arts, writing, and moreover, interacting with people. I love what I do as a holistic practitioner. By utilizing chiropractic, pilates, and acupuncture, I crack bones and poke needles. But the real work happens in the experience I go through with my clients’ recovery and healing process that is so priceless and rewarding. The best part of this is not in figuring out what’s wrong with their pain, nor the delivery of the treatment. It is all in sharing of what’s really life-changing when you start to care about your health and well-being of the mind and body. But you can achieve this much on yourself. Here is the answer, that saves your expensive visits to the doctors and improves your life quality. Start from changing little things in your lifestyle, like choosing water over sugary drinks, and going for a walk instead of opening the fridge when you are bored. As easy as it sounds, we all need a little guidance to make better decisions every day. This is why I created my own channels of a website, YouTube and Instagram to share lifestyle choices and tips that accumulate to change lives slowly but easily. My website, for this reason, is called “easefulfit.com” to reinforce how easily you can be fit in many aspects of life including physical and psycho-emotional health as well as lifestyle enrichment. I enrich my experience and perspectives with travels, arts, and activities as well as seen in my Instagram. We are also going to launch a product line, that will be very practical in life uses.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Finding a mentor is not easy. First, you have to work on yourself to understand your passion, brush up your skills and be confident to throw yourself out into the field. I think that is when you are ready to meet the right one, that can guide you. I have found many mentor figures in the field that allowed me to learn so much whether it is their skills, knowledge, business mind or passion itself. It’s great to pick up on things from others who are ahead of the game and combine it to make it your own. But it takes a lot of respect through learning and being humble to those who help you.
