Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Carvajal.
Carolina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started photography around 10 years ago when my first daughter was born and I wanted to take images of all the moments I shared with her. I signed up for classes at the college learning the basics of photography, and practicing more and more with my kids, family and closest friends. I wanted to learn more about portrait photography, I am always inspired by people and their stories, success, business, why they do what they do it, their passions. And also, I am also passionate about food photography since I started college and til these days, I love to eat great food and I love to cook for my family as well.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been easy from day one, English is my second language and I had to learned it at college while I was taking art classes, so for me was kind of a rough path when I started up, most of the people that I know in the photography industry, they started with their neighbors, friends, and family and by that time, I had none of those around me, to help me start my journey as a photographer. So, I joined moms clubs closer to my area and they were like 3 photographers in it. My advice for other women is that you have to value yourself no matter what. I mean if you are building your portfolio don’t work for free because you don’t have the experience I think at least charge for gas, time and food and I think it would be easier just to accept some money at the beginning than none.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Images by Carolina – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a portrait photographer, I specialize in women photography. and I am proud to enhance the beauty of women in a timeless portrait. I do print my work, I feel so proud when I see my work printed like old times in the darkroom, instead just a digital photo.
Who have you been inspired by?
Definitely, my family is a big inspiration in different areas, my mother has tough me tolerance and patience, my sisters and nieces that I have to relax or slow down a little bit more in life. My friends that are entrepreneurs like me and have a family and also single mothers they are a true inspiration for me.
