Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Trevino.
Briana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started blogging my freshman year of college but I did not really take it seriously. I would shoot here and there and only post once in a while when it was convenient. I had no real niche and wrote about random topics with not so quality pictures. What really started getting me into blogging was the conferences I attended. I went to a workshop or two and I really learned what makes a blog great. While I still have much work to do, I have grown so much! I have defined my niche to fashion/lifestyle blogging, I post to Pinterest, have a blogging Facebook page, and my Instagram is now completely about my blog where it struggled before to find the balance.
After graduating from Texas State University, I found a PR internship here in Los Angeles, California and I decided that there is no better place for my blog to take off than here. I frequently attend blogging/promotional events and I am able to create more content than ever before! It gets difficult working and blogging, but it is so worth it!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a crazy road! I think that blogging is full of ups and downs. Luckily, the highs are much higher than the lows are low. This is what pushes me to keep going. I think what I really struggle with is comparing myself. I see other blogger’s content and I wonder how to do exactly what they did or why they get more likes/brand collaborations than I do. That and going through a dry period of no collaborations and stagnant likes are the worst!
I always give the same advice to new bloggers… be consistent. I have been asked by at least four girls if I could help them start a blog, and while I would love to, I feel like it is something that you have to take the time to do. So many people start blogging and stop because of lack of time, not enough content, and mostly loss of interest. I am more likely to help a blogger after they have proven they really want to do this after trying it out first! Once you do that, coming up with a schedule is crucial! I have a whole content calendar devoted only to my blog posts, stories, shooting, collabs, and meetups.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with BeYouTiful Brunette – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
So, my real job is PR. I work as a Public Relations professional and I mostly do social media. You have no idea how helpful this is for growing my blog. I always have to keep up with the latest algorithm changes and tips that I find.
I think what separates me from other bloggers though is my style. It is a mix of femininity, fun and flirty. (Wow, I just made that up but I’m going to write that down somewhere.) I can never decide if I want all neutral content, showing off simplicity or something outrageous with lots of statement pieces!
Regardless, it is always fun and I try to keep what I write about interesting. Some of my most viewed topics are on my anxiety, an event I attended, and how I edit my photos.
Who have you been inspired by?
Women that inspired me are obviously my mom. She perfected the balance between gentle and tough love and I think that’s so hard to do.
A few of my family members like my grandma who I used to watch paint her nails bright red before a night out and my aunt who taught me how to cut off my split ends properly.
Not only do these women teach me the amazing blessings that come with being a girl, but they teach me about faith, and fairness, and the importance of progression as a person. I believe we can learn so much just from the entire generation before us. We don’t have to repeat the same mistakes but learn from theirs and that is what will take us farther.
