Life & Work with Angela Henderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Henderson.

Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an experienced Model and Hip Hop Dancer from the San Francisco bay area. Ever since I was five, I knew that I wanted to move to LA and work in the entertainment biz. Watching musical artists on tv and award shows made me want to be a part of that glamorous life. At that young age, my parents put me in dance classes where I learned to tap, jazz and ballet. I loved it and I competed all throughout my school years. At age ten, I began participating in local fashion shows and dance events. When I turned 18, I landing a spot on the NFL Oakland Raiders cheerleading squad. After that, I cheered for the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. Being a part of these teams was a lot of fun and all the ladies were so nice. It was like being in a sorority. Having that experience gave me the confidence to further my career and move to Hollywood to dance and model. I signed with some agents and within two months of living in Hollywood I was fortunate to book three lead roles in major music videos. That quickly led to dancing with entertainers such as Beyonce and Rihanna for live shows, booking future lead roles in music videos and various national commercials. I’ve been blessed to add entertainers such as Conan O Brian, Pharrell, Nick Canon and billboards for Apple/Mac to my resume. My motto is “don’t wish for it… work for it”. I love working in this industry and I can’t wait to see what is in store next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a fun journey but definitely not an easy one. Many doors closed but it was a blessing in disguise for even better opportunities most of the times. I’m a glass half full type of person and I always find positive points to every situation. One struggle has always been my size for both modeling and dancing. I am not a straight or plus size so sometimes there are not opportunities for me. I try to advocate for more inclusiveness in the industry. Things are definitely getting better but I hope more companies hire people of all sizes and heights. I always say it can’t be your time every time and that’s ok. You are not going to book every audition, others need a chance to shine too. There is enough opportunities for all of us and I love sharing what I know.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I wear many hats these days after the pandemic. I am a Model, Professional Dancer, Promotional Spokes Model and Content Creator. I love every category job that I do. Everyday is something new which I love and I get to meet new people from all over the world both online and in person. Being a Promotional Model gives me the freedom to be available for auditions as it is a very flexible job. It also is a fun job as you get to work for big events such as the Oscars and for very major brands. I am most proud of achieving all my goals that I wrote down. It’s cheesy but it really works. One dream I put was that I would dance with Destiny’s Child for an award show. I researched how to become a Dancer and I ended up dancing with Beyoncé for the MTV awards. I also got to perform next to Dancers that I looked up to before my journey began which really meant a lot to me. It’s a wonderful feeling that I can’t describe when you are in the living moment of your ultimate dream. I now also enjoy helping others reach their goals by spreading tips and knowledge of what I learned along the way…

What matters most to you? Why?
Family, my faith, being kind and being loyal is very important to me. I just want to be a good person and share love to others, to put a smile on their face. I believe I do jobs that fulfill these everyday ☺️
