Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Law.
Alison, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born in raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I went to a private art school, and I grew up playing the violin, dancing, and theater. Grew up in a single family home with no money and much resources. I was told every day I wouldn’t be anything in life. I used my trails and tribulations as my motivation to greatness. I started college at Cleveland State University on a partial cheerleading scholarship. I eventually transferred to Howard University in Washington D.C. and graduated with Cum Laude honors with my degree in Broadcast Journalism. I relocated to Los Angeles a year after college. I worked as a news reporter, radio host, entertainment journalist. While working on the red carpets and interviewing celebs on their films, etc., it made me realize that I came to LA to pursue my childhood dream in acting. I quit working in my field and put all my energy into becoming who I said I’d always be.
Has it been a smooth road?
Life is never a smooth road. I took a leap of faith with no plan, no money, and no family support. I just had this pulling feeling tugging at me in my heart. I came to LA with no money and I had used graduate school as a scapegoat, but once I came to LA I didn’t receive the scholarship I was told. So, I had to take a different turn and figure it out. While having a degree, I had to take a low paying job at PF Chang’s just to get some change in my pocket. I was living in stranger’s houses, sleeping on HU alum coaches. I was homeless at one point in time. I was splitting a tiny (bug infested) studio apartment with a friend. I had no car for two years while in Los Angeles. Every day, I was figuring it out all while keeping a smile on my face and motivating others to follow their dreams. Eventually, things started getting better for me. My advice to anyone; is to LIVE LIFE!!! Tomorrow is never ever promised. Go after what makes you come alive, what makes you smile, what makes you breathe again! Never ever settle, just go for it, at least you can say you tried and you didn’t give up!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
