We recently had the chance to connect with Sierra Howard and have shared our conversation below.
Sierra, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes! I recently landed a feature in Vanity Fair magazine and I felt really proud about that. There’s this girl named Liv Portio who also owns a jewelry business called DBL Jewelry who I looked up to during my journey and she’s helped my business grow as well with tips (she’s further in her career and has been doing it longer) and I remember first seeing her in Vanity Fair. She reached out to me recently congratulating me on my feature which was so nice and amazing to think about. 5 years later and now I’m being featured in magazine features such as Bold Journey, Vanity Fair, Voyage Magazine and soon Vogue. It’s a dream come true!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi my name is Sierra Howard and I’m a Jewelry Designer for Sierra’s Collections Jewelry and A Digital Product Designer for AureliBloom. I created Sierra’s Collections Jewelry 5 years ago as a passion project. I was working at Starbucks at the time and wasn’t making enough money to get through school and help my family with bills. At the time, I was discovering my love for jewelry along with an insightful spiritual awakening journey. I created my jewelry brand catering to the divine feminine and inner creatives with high interest in feminine /spiritual inspired jewelry. My jewelry embodies a modern approach to spirituality; one that isn’t confined to linear traditions or rigid definitions. Each piece is designed to resonate with a contemporary sense of self-discovery, blending timeless symbolism with a fresh, elevated aesthetic. This year, I created my second business Aurelibloom where I sell my digital planner designs off Etsy. It is also spiritually inspired and made for the girls who love affirmation’s, angel numbers, colorful auras, and motivational quotes!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a creative, a sweetheart, I didn’t care about negative opinions and I was an independent thinker. I’m an eldest daughter, so it’s in my nature to be naturally independent. I use to isolate myself to craft solo at home and in school making different forms of art. My crafty side started to dwindle the older I got. I was told growing up I needed to go to a great school and get a degree to get a good job. I always remained an honor roll student when I was in grade school but once I got to college I realized that my grades were slipping tremendously because I realized that my passion of being an entrepreneur didn’t necessarily require schooling and I didn’t have a desire to work for anyone else long term. I had to return to myself. The little girl in me didn’t truly care what anyone else thinks I should do. She would chase her passion every single time. And my businesses allowed me to do that.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her that she’s capable of more than she thinks. Though I was an independent thinker and didn’t care much about what people thought, I still had major self doubt in myself and my ability because I would often compare myself to my peers who I thought were way further than me and had a more likable personality. I would tell younger me that the negative thoughts in my head was just noise and that I’m incredibly impactful and inspiring. Younger me would be shocked and super proud that we started these businesses on our own
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
That you can create your own reality. I believe in the power of manifestation. My dad instilled this mindset in me since I was a little girl. The power of manifestation is real and you could create a positive outcome/reality for yourself if you believe it to be true and believe in yourself and your capabilities.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think my customers would miss 2 things in particular: my Motivation Monday posts and my customer service. I post Motivational posts on Monday via Instagram whether through feed or posts to help my audience get through the week. In these troubling times with a lot of negative content accessible on the internet, I made it my mission to post positive and impactful content that aligns with my brand. My customer service has been said to be outstanding and I take pride in that. I have been told that I’m quick, kind, effective, relatable, fair and understanding.
