Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Nadia Sessen of San Clemente

Nadia Sessen shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Nadia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: When was the last time you felt true joy?
The Forest calls me, the trees speak, the earth holds my body and soul. My heart soars, and the day transforms into night, where I am lead to the studio. The speakers on either side of the central computer, a microphone awaits, a tapestry under my toes that invokes both sensuality and prayer. This room is Holy, a Temple holding my heart, asking me to sing for healing, for alchemy, for celebration~ to breathe my soul and All of existence back into remembrance of the most transcendental Love.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
At first it was all about creating beauty through art and music, no matter how hard life could be, But then life guided me backstage at Bhakti Fest into the hands of a deeply gifted healer, Hawk Haaq Mark Sanders. I felt a still point form between the duality of the incredible suffering and joy of life. A deeply loving force flooded every cell of my body and soul telling me that we all worthy of this Love. That we are all made of it. And then, something changed~ and a seed began to grow a garden in my heart, as it is growing in many hearts at this time; to do our best to bring Heaven onto this Earth. Now I pray daily for this purpose to move me whether I am creating music, art, teaching yoga, or holding space in private healing session through sound and touch.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
As humans, we often grapple with fears of scarcity and imperfection, which can obscure our truest self. However, when we access our Divine Nature, we tap into our essence, recognizing the love within each being. By fiercely practicing compassion with grace, we can understand the roots of pain that lead to hurtful behavior, fostering a nurturing environment where we uplift one another. Embracing this path empowers us to rise together, transforming fear into understanding and love. Perhaps here, we can create freedom together to live passionately, bringing Love to all we do, encouraging each other to embody our soul with playfulness, purpose, pleasure. It is my prayer that all I do radiates and activates this remembrance.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Though I would be honored, elated and relieved at the purposeful momentum and support of success, I have witnessed that the grief and emotional pain i’ve experienced especially in recent years has carved a deeper and wider space in me to receive and hold loving space for others. To reach into profoundly soulful depths within myself to bring a healing medicine whether in a setting of healing, yoga, or through the alchemical making and expression of music. Success can make people feel like one person is more or less important than another, and though I have struggled to accept some of the disappointments of life, I am deeply grateful that my human experience thus far has helped me to honor the courage it takes to live each and every human life. Heart break is always an opportunity to become more closed off or more open to Love.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Though it has been a long journey in which I’ve often felt lost and then found again, I am still devoted to bringing a transcendental transmission through music and healing that has the power to alchemize the duality of the human experience into Love. To bring a quality so mystical, ancient and yet new, so vulnerable and raw yet Divine, that has the power to unlock the Holiness of our existence, freeing myself and others to live in soulful communion with life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Though it honestly terrifies me and I still am somewhat hot and cold about it, I would regret not bringing this music and all the beauty i have to share in larger live settings, stages, beautiful ceremonial spaces. I can be a hermit and love being in the studio, yet I know the stage calls. And even more so, I would regret not bringing love to the process, to people and to myself along the way. Perfectionism, criticism and being so goal oriented have at times brought out colder, meaner wounded sides in me. I do not want to leave my heart behind or that of others for music. I want to do this with increasing tenderness, while remaining in tune with nature, which has often not been done in the realm of music ‘industry’.
