We recently had the chance to connect with Lizzy Liz and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lizzy , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’m often avoiding — or more honestly, postponing — is the one between pouring everything I have into making others’ lives and experiences seamless, while forgetting to give myself the same care and attention. In my line of work, it’s second nature to go the extra mile for clients — to anticipate their needs, ease their stress, and make their vision come to life. I take pride in that. But in doing so, I sometimes neglect my own boundaries, needs, and well-being.
Like so many people, I’m trying to figure out how to balance it all — work, personal life, relationships, growth, and rest. There’s a voice in my head constantly reminding me to love myself the way I love my clients: with patience, intention, and thoughtfulness. But when you’re always “on,” it’s easy to sacrifice your own peace without realizing the toll it’s taking — mentally, emotionally, even physically.
So, the battle I’m avoiding is the one that forces me to slow down, reset, and prioritize myself without guilt. And I know that in order to keep showing up at a high level for others, that battle needs to stop being optional. I’m learning that self-care isn’t selfish — it’s essential.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Lizzy Liz — founder of Lizzy Liz Events, aka your Litty Committee, where we turn wedding dreams and milestone moments into unforgettable realities. With over 20 years of experience, I’ve built a reputation for creating events that are not only stunning but deeply personal and meticulously executed. I got my start young — managing a wedding venue in high school — and what began as a side hustle quickly became my full-time calling. Today, I specialize in full-service planning, coordination, and design for weddings, corporate events, and multi-day conferences across Southern California. Whether it’s a luxury wedding weekend or a branded corporate retreat, I bring the same passion, precision, and people-first energy to every event. My clients are treated like VIP family from the first planning session to the last round of champagne.
What makes Lizzy Liz Events truly unique is how we blend cultural richness, creativity, and logistical expertise into events that feel effortless and unforgettable. I don’t just plan — I curate experiences that allow my clients to feel seen, supported, and stress-free. From detailed timelines to surprise-and-delight touches, I’m there to fill your cup — literally and figuratively — every step of the way. Whether you’re saying “I do” or launching your next big brand experience, I’ve got you covered. Around here, we believe “couples that rave together stay together” and that corporate doesn’t have to mean boring. I’m currently expanding offerings to support clients at every stage of the planning process and deepening my network of trusted vendors to keep the vibes high and the execution flawless. Let’s get litty — with intention, style, and a whole lot of heart.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that’s most shaped how I see myself is the one I’ve had with my bestie Minnie, who I’ve known since the 4th grade. She’s been my constant — always reminding me of who I am, especially in the moments I tend to forget. Minnie has this incredible way of seeing my fullest potential, even when I’m overwhelmed or doubting myself. One of the things she’s always said to me is, “If not now, then when?” — and that little phrase has stuck with me through some of my most stressful seasons, both personally and professionally.
She knows how hard I push myself, how much I care about the people and work in my life, and she always meets that with encouragement, honesty, and love. Having someone who sees you clearly but also holds you accountable to your growth is rare — and she’s that for me. We all need a bestie like that — someone who not only supports you but also pushes you toward who you’re meant to become. Minnie has done that for me for as long as I can remember, and because of her, I walk with a little more confidence and a lot more purpose.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely — it happens all the time. There are dry seasons in this business where I’ve seriously questioned everything. You start wondering if life would be easier with a steady corporate job and consistent paychecks. But then when things get busy and the work comes rushing in, I catch myself thinking, “Wow, wouldn’t it be nice to have a job that forces me to take PTO?” There’s no perfect balance — it’s just part of the journey.
What made it even harder was growing up with the weight of expectations. My parents came to the U.S. after escaping the Vietnam War, chasing the American dream — one they hoped I would fulfill in a “secure” career aka doctor, attorney, lawyer, etc. Every day, I was reminded of their sacrifice, and the idea of me becoming an entrepreneur and event planner didn’t exactly line up with what they envisioned. Over time, that pressure chips away at you. You just want to make your parents proud. But as I’ve grown, I’ve learned to break free of those expectations and live life on my own terms. So to anyone feeling torn: don’t give up on your passion. Do what you love — because at the end of the day, you’re the one living your life.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that everything happens for a reason, even if we can’t always see or understand what that reason is in the moment. Life has this mysterious way of guiding us through challenges, detours, and unexpected turns — leading us exactly where we need to be, even if it’s not where we planned. I can’t prove it, of course, but I’ve seen enough moments in my own journey where something that felt like a setback ended up opening the door to something better.
That belief keeps me grounded when things feel uncertain. It reminds me to trust the process, stay open to growth, and be patient with myself. Sometimes, the biggest leaps come from places we least expect — and that’s where the magic happens.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I don’t really believe we’re born to do just one thing. Life isn’t a fixed script — it’s more like a crazy simulation where you get to decide your own direction. You have the power to change careers, reinvent yourself, and chase whatever brings you joy at any point. If you’re on a path that feels right today but stops bringing you happiness tomorrow, it’s totally okay — and even expected — to switch gears.
Why be stuck when you can actually do something about it? You won’t know what you’re truly capable of until you try. And it’s absolutely okay to fail — that’s part of the process. What matters is getting back up, continuing to pursue what lights you up, and trusting that happiness will follow as a byproduct. The money? That will come too, when you’re doing what you love with passion and persistence.
