Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Dahiana Bilbao of Los Angeles

Dahiana Bilbao shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Dahiana, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
Waking up – going right into my Kundalini Yoga practice and / or assisting my teacher who is the custodian of the Kundalini Technology, Tej Kaur Khalsa. Followed by an hour of cold plunge and swim! So pretty much creating heat and cooling it off!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello everyone! I am Dahiana, also known as Guru D, or simply Dee! I’ve been a Kundalini Yoga Teacher for about 10 years and yogini for about 15 years. I moved to Los Angeles back in 2009 on a Musical Theatre scholarship which led me into a yogic journey. One that would assist my creative, authentic self through self discipline and wisdom with focused and direct projection of projects. Currently teaching powerful breath work and Kundalini Yoga events and workshops throughout Los Angeles & Pennsylvania. Creating the most awakened, elevated communities, gratefully so.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Loss. The loss of my beloved dog, my grandparents, too many friends. Knowing without loss, the pain and suffering that comes with it is the opened doorway to love. To elevation. To a divine, accelerated awakening of who we are while in this time and place so temporary. To rememeber “you don’t live once” – you get to live every single day and die once. Make your days count, breath by breath.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Humility. Chaos. And the peace that follows. That suffering doesn’t get to live where you allow it to leave. That without suffering you’ll never know how much love we can let in. Metaphysically, the laws of opposition. That without suffering light and love can not come in; That without chaos, peace can not withstand. It’s through the everythingness that we can find wholeness.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
A little too real! Haha! There’s nothing to hide, no mask and no facade. I’ve worked over a decade to become who I am and wildly passionate of all I have to give and share!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Speaking up and speaking out. I am not here to share pretty lies and consider your feelings. If anything I am here to trigger them. Reaction is to be controlled and response is to be made aware. How you are affected by someone’s words is ultimately what isn’t healed in you. It’s never about you and them and always about you and God. As a woman in this day and age, I say a lot and feel even more. I will not regret my sound in this lifetime.
