We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alex Foxman MD, FACP, ABOM. Check out our conversation below.
Alex , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Across all my businesses — Achieve, Beverly Hills Institute, and Mobile Physician Associates, the thing I’m most proud of isn’t the part anyone sees. It’s the systems, culture, and quiet infrastructure behind the scenes that make exceptional care look effortless.
From the clinical protocols at Achieve, to the concierge-level preventive care at BHI, to the high-touch mobile medicine we deliver through MPA, the real magic is in the organization, safety checks, data, and teamwork that no one ever notices. People see the outcomes; they don’t see the decades of refining the machinery.
That invisible foundation is what allows us to deliver care that feels personal, seamless, and human and that’s the part I’m proudest of.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alex Foxman, MD, FACP, ABOM, a double board-certified internist and obesity medicine specialist, and the founder of three medical organizations built right here in Los Angeles: Achieve Health & Weight Loss, Beverly Hills Institute, and Mobile Physician Associates.
What makes my work unique is that each of these organizations solves a different problem in healthcare, yet all share the same philosophy: compassionate, high-touch, science-driven care that works in the real world.
Achieve is a national medical weight-management program helping people lose 20%+ of their body weight using GLP-1/GIP medications, certified health coaching, and remote monitoring, all born in LA.
Beverly Hills Institute is my concierge internal-medicine practice focused on prevention, longevity, and truly personal care.
Mobile Physician Associates brings high-quality medical care directly to the homes of frail, elderly, and high-needs patients across Los Angeles.
My story is pretty simple: after 20+ years in medicine, I was tired of watching patients fall through the cracks. So I built systems and teams that close those cracks. Today, I’m working on expanding Achieve nationwide, growing tech-enabled care models, and continuing to push for a more human, more effective healthcare experience.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother, without question. We immigrated from Kiev, Ukraine, and she showed me from day one what real resilience looks like. She worked tirelessly, often with limited resources and zero excuses, and taught me that work isn’t just effort; it’s integrity, consistency, and taking care of people even when no one is watching. Everything I’ve built today is rooted in the work ethic I learned by watching her rebuild our life from scratch.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me perspective, humility, and the ability to keep moving when life feels impossible. Success is great, it’s shiny, fun, and looks good on LinkedIn, but it never teaches you who you really are. The hard moments do.
Coming to the U.S. as immigrants from Kiev, rebuilding from scratch, losing things, rebuilding again. Those experiences taught me grit, compassion, and the certainty that you can survive far more than you think. Success feels good, but suffering builds you.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I differentiate fads from real foundational shifts by looking for what lasts. Fads are loud and short-lived, but true shifts are backed by science, real-world data, and consistent patient outcomes. In medicine, especially in preventative care and weight management, I focus on evidence, measurable results, and whether something still delivers long after the hype fades. GLP-1/GIP medications meet those criteria; juice cleanses definitely don’t.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do. Nobody told me to build medical practices, create a national weight-management program, or fight for better patient care. Those came from a genuine passion to help people live healthier, longer lives. As immigrants from Kiev, we didn’t have a roadmap, so I learned early to carve my own. Medicine was always the calling, but the way I practice it today is entirely self-driven.
