Today we’d like to introduce you to Toya Cox.
Hi Toya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had started of as a fine artist and musician, lost and unsure as to which direction I wanted to take for my own career. I found that most people around me had been confident on their dream jobs and aware of which paths they had wanted to take. As I had been unsure, I focused on my craft, striving to improve on the skills that I did have. Others had begun to take interest in my work and I started to painting commission work and developed a small business. I had decided that although fine art was something I had strong knowledge in, I felt that there had been something bigger that was meant for me. After weeks and months of research, I began to dive into the world of film. The number of roles and opportunities fascinated me and it felt like my love for film had always been there but I had not considered it as an industry that I would be able to work in. Using camera skills I had learnt from college, I started practicing photography as a new media form, taking on my own creative fashion projects and volunteering at productions. This had led me to start my own production company ‘Lens Vision Studios’. BTS photography and videography had been my gateway into the world of filmmaking and I believe that the great amount of time that I had put into reaching out to people for opportunities helped me get to where I am now. Currently, I am in film school and running Lens Vision Studios. I’m constantly exploring new techniques, perspectives, and ideas that push me beyond my comfort zone. Every project is an opportunity to learn, evolve, and create meaningful visual experiences. My story is about hard work, persistency and dedication to my art. I have went from having no connections to working freely in the industry.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! At the start of my journey my progress had consisted of a series of delivered and opened messages which had effected me at the start. I found that I needed to remain consistent as there will be a time where a message can come through. I also found that this helped improve the fear of rejection that I had and made me comfortable with the word ‘no’. Film and media has long been male-dominated especially in roles like cinematography and lighting which are the areas that I have been interested in. Men are often perceived as more ‘technical’ and some of these biases can affect decision making in the industry. I’ve learnt that I need to make sure that my voice is heard especially as a woman and not be discouraged that there is a lack of female representation but be excited for the opportunity to present myself as a woman in the industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Lens Vision Studios is creative brand dedicated to bringing people’s visions to life. We specialize in delivering quick, high-quality digital media services at accessible prices, making professional visual production achievable for everyone—from aspiring creators to established brands. We take pride in customizing each project to reflect our clients’ individual goals, aesthetics, and brand identity, ensuring that every outcome is as unique as the vision behind it. Our mission is simple: to transform ideas into powerful visual realities through innovation, precision, and creativity.
Any big plans?
In the future, I aim to continue expanding Lens Vision Studios and explore how far this creative vision can go. My goal is to build a large, dependable team that shares my values and passion for creating without limits, producing innovative forms of media for wider audiences. I plan to open a studio in London that serves as a base for young creatives at the start of their careers, providing a space where they can develop their craft and collaborate with like-minded individuals. This studio will be the kind of place I wished existed when I was beginning my journey, a supportive environment where emerging artists can find direction, inspiration, and the opportunity to kickstart their own creative paths.
