Hi Tabitha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story starts with simply being a black girl. Growing up managing textures, hair plays a significant part in our life. Learning what products work best for our hair through trial and error, we go on the never-ending journey of finding the next best product to manage our hair. This journey turned into a passion I began to excel in and attracted friends and clientele, eventually opening my own salon. While owning and running a salon, my salon, I would custom blend my products, which was the easy part, but I never understood why the functionality of our products never was innovative in black hair care. I wanted to bring something different and valuable to the industry, so I closed my salon and took a solo journey overseas to learn more about healthy hair care products and formulas that promoted growth for different types of hair.
My first solo journey started in December 2018, when I traveled overseas to various factories with digital drawings and ingredients for my ideal product that would change the game in hair care. After those visits, that is when I developed Yin-Yang Edge Control. The product debuted in March 2019 at the Bronner Bros Hair Show in New Orleans, where consumers received it well. Next, our product appeared in the Houston, Texas, local beauty supply stores and became a top seller on Amazon. Following this, our innovative product became patented, which led to it being able to be launched in Walmart and is pending in other major chain retail stores.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been far from a smooth road. The difficulty comes with funding and learning how to develop a product. I did not know anyone that had done anything like this, nor was there a blueprint. I learned through trial and error. My advice to anyone wanting to do any type of business would be to work hard and generate income because you must spend money to make money. Secondly, go for it because there is no right or wrong way, and you cannot win if you do not play. Lastly, your journey is your journey! Stop comparing your brand, VISION, and process to others! It will look and feel different, but it will be so worth it! Stay focused and consistent, and sacrifice in areas where you want to see growth.

What are your plans for the future?
We are looking forward to selling in more mass retail stores, launching more innovative products, and continuing to provide solutions to self-care needs.
