Inspiring Conversations with Suzan Brittan of HypnoClique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzan Brittan.

Hi Suzan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I came to Los Angeles in 1989 because I wanted to be an actress and a singer-songwriter. I did have a lot of success singing with famous people singing around town and I even had a #1 billboard hit in 2004. But basically nobody cared. As an actress I did some fun jobs with some really famous people but ultimately it’s all about being in other people’s hands to get the jobs you really want. I was kind of giving their responsibility of my life and career two other people to manage or garner more work. So during COVID I decided to take a look around at what was going on in the industry as far as entertainment was concerned and knew this was sort of a dead end and it didn’t matter how talented I was. However, it was my speaking voice during a voiceover job that led me on the path of becoming a hypnotherapist. Now I’ve had jobs in corporate America I worked for an infomercial company as their in-house producer, I’ve worked for Warner Brothers, Discovery Channel, national lampoon, and other businesses and entertainment. But none of them fulfilled me or gave me a sense of belonging.

While I was doing that voice over for that director he told me that I have a voice that was very soothing and that I should look into hypnotizing people. All I could think about was someone on stage making someone bark like a dog or a cluck like a chicken and stealing their wallet. It wasn’t until one week later when universe sent me another sign that I should get into hypnotherapy. That sign came in the form of the owner of the fully accredited hypnotherapy school called HMI in Tarzana California. I was at Starbucks and he was holding a folder which said hypnosis motivational institute. I asked him some questions and he gave me some answers and it was like I was hit by lightning I knew right then and there I wanted to be of service especially learning this during COVID. I knew coming out of the pandemic was going to cause a lot of mental anguish and I wanted to be there to help. So I went to school and then I went to school some more I earned 2 diplomas and the last one was my certification for mind body psychology, which was what gave me the title of certified clinical hypnotherapist. I’m also a member of the American hypnotherapy association and I have a business license and liability insurance.

Over three years later I have a thriving hypnotherapy practice at my office suite in Sherman Oaks and every Wednesday I hold sound bath and hypnosis for free. But you better book your recliner chair because they go fast, I only have nine of them.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If it’s been a smooth road, you’re either lying to yourself or you’ve done something wrong. Mistakes are not mistakes they’re learning experiences and each experience has made me a better therapist and I finally feel like I’m in purpose on purpose. The biggest challenge is marketing and putting myself out there. Everything is about Instagram, and followers and it distracts from the real work – but it’s a necessary evil.
