Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheryl Matheu
Hi Sheryl, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I had my 3rd child I realized working was not working and I obviously needed to work. Then one night I had a dream….why not open a daycare.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life I never a smooth road. It’s just how you handle it. At the beginning I had very few clients and had to put all my savings into keeping it afloat. Twice I had to move locations because landlords were selling the building. Both times I seriously contemplated shutting down. Over the years we have helped a lot of amazing families. Unavoidably there are always a few dissatisfied families and that is always tricky because in addition to their dissatisfaction you are watching their child.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Casa de Matheu is a non profit childcare offering enriching and affordable childcare to the families of Hollywood. I think what sets us apart from the rest is I have had the same workers for 15 years?! We really are one big family. We do a weekly meditation class and the kids get in touch with their own inner super power. And once a month I stay open until 10pm so the parents can go out and have some alone time.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I was even old enough to talk yet and I was standing in the hallway and was thinking….it will be this same voice talking to me in my head now and when I’m an old lady!
