Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheida Pourat.

Sheida Pourat

Hi Sheida, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My father started the business in 1980 selling inexpensive kitchenware and tons of close-out items. Basically, we started off as a discount kitchen store selling everything for the kitchen at a discounted price. The business became very successful as we were located at a busy intersection in LA and also close to the Jewish community and tons of families with kids whom loved entertaining. We would receive new items and attracting new clients every day. A small store with tons of kitchen items at great prices with vast variety. People from all over CA and other nearby states would come to their holiday shopping with us, especially during Thanks Giving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter and Passover were jammed packed at the store. Even the customers who moved away from LA, in their next visit they would stop by and take home goodies.

Over the years, we attracted more customers, especially restaurant owners, caterers, and event planners. So we added more variety to our selection and began importing more kitchenware from overseas. This way, we were satisfying both types of clientele. We were also featured in a few different Tv Programs as the best deal in town. “If you can’t find it anywhere, you will find it at Bargain Fair.” And a couple of times, we were also featured in LA magazine as the best selection of kitchenware under one roof. You can shop for everything in your kitchen in 30 minutes at a bargain price. One thing that distinguishes us from other stores are the variety of lines and pricing. You can buy a fork for .50c or $10.00. you can buy one or 100. different lines of merchandise and price points to satisfy the need of different customers. We also had worked with food networks (hells kitchen), Tv commercials and our line is in a lot of restaurants.

June of 2022, we were asked by our landlord to move out after 44 years since they were planning to demolish the corner. After a few months of contemplation and searching for a new location, we decided to close down. And a day later, I found a prime location on the corner of Robertson and Pico. Safer neighborhoods and less problems with homelessness. So we moved in March 2023 after and our new story began.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We had our challenges like any other business where you need to make adjustments and changes from time to time in order to stay on the top. Internet and Amazon have been a big competition in this picture but luckily, our selection of items under one roof with great origin and personal customer service have win us over and over again.

Of course, the Covid Era was also a very stressful time for us and the riots in LA was another blow but fortunately, we were able to keep our head above water and are still moving forward.
