Inspiring Conversations with Robert Nunn of Interactive Images

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Nunn.

Robert Nunn

Robert, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in West Hills, California. Growing up, I always knew I would be an entrepreneur in some way. I remember when I was a senior at Taft High School, the photographer on senior portrait day told me, “You look like you are really good at something,” to which I replied, ” I don’t know what, but thanks.” The photographer’s comment always stuck with me, and I tried different things to figure out ‘what’ that is. With lots of twists and turns and ups and downs, like most people who don’t take a conventional path, I ended up finding my core passion. When you find your core passion, everything else falls into place over time. For me, it’s being able to use technology and creativity to make existing products better. Lately, I’ve found a home in assisting in Live Concert preshow fan experiences and have been blessed to work on the tours of Artists like Karol G, Coldplay, OneRepublic, Janet Jackson, and more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there were numerous challenged along the way and always will be as life is a journey and not a destination. I’m fortunate to have a supportive family that allowed me to always come back home to my childhood room growing up when money was low, or I needed to. I’ve lived in the valley my whole life and never further than 30 minutes from my childhood home. My sister and her husband live 5 minutes away from my parents, so we all believe in being close. Despite challenges, I would always see ‘small victories’ in the things I would try to do and always felt if I collected enough small wins, it would lead to a big one, which has slowly but surely happened.

Back then, a lot of my ideas of things I wanted to do were stalled because I didn’t have the ‘case studies’ to prove it, so people didn’t want to work with me. I’m fortunate that now I not only have that, but I have a long list of experience that I have learned from and continue to do so.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about your next project?
I had the good fortune of being able to connect with singer Tate Mcrae through my ongoing partnership with Live Nation last year for her ‘Are We Flying Tour’ preshow lounge experience for fans. Tate is a superstar now with something like 6 billion views on Spotify with an upcoming World Tour at ‘Tier 1’ (industry talk) arenas, including Madison Square Garden, this summer, but she has remained humble and truly cares about her fans. Last year, her team green-lighted my idea to use Augmented Reality to turn her tour posters into a time capsule with an exclusive video and a link for fans to register for exclusive future content. Despite being incredibly busy, she took and texted us the video for an hour before her show, and the amazing staff at VIP Nation created stickers and placed them on all the roll-up posters. Literally by hand because this opportunity happened after the posters were already printed.

Fans ended up loving interacting with Tate in this way, and thousands of fans submitted their info to be contacted for future merch and fan club opportunities. Because of that, Tate’s team allowed me to expand on the concept for her upcoming ‘Think Later’ tour, which will expand beyond the tour posters and will essentially become an interactive platform allowing fans to submit their favorite moments from the show, rate the show and give feedback, unlock an exclusive message from Tate and more. Tate’s willingness to try new concepts to connect with her fans as much as possible shows her character, especially because it’s not something she “had” to do on the tour.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Back then, a lot of my ideas of things I wanted to do were stalled because I didn’t have the ‘case studies’ to prove it, so people didn’t want to work with me. I’m fortunate that now I not only have that, but I have a long list of experience that I have learned from and continue to do so. Once you really know how to do something and have been able to do it successfully even one time, you will have the confidence to keep doing it. The company I was the Co-founder of for years around the time of Covid had tons of positive moment and deals in the process that all were shut down once Covid happened. That was the turning point for me where I could have given up and gotten a “real job,” but instead, I was able to pivot into what I do now and learn from the experience.
